Windows 10は「Spartan」と「IE」の2種類のブラウザを搭載して出荷されることが判明

2015年中にリリースされる予定のWindows 10にはコードネーム「Spartan」と呼ばれる新ブラウザが搭載されることがすでに明らかになっていましたが、Microsoftではこれに加えて従来からの流れを引き継ぐInternet Explorer(IE)を「延命」してWindows 10に搭載し、「Spartan」と「IE」のブラウザ2本立てでの提供を検討していることを明らかにしました。

これはMicrosoftでIEグループのプログラムマネージャーを務めるJason Weber氏がブログで明らかにしたもの。同社では、現在でも従来からの技術である「カスタムActiveX」や「Browser Helper Object」といったレガシー(旧世代)テクノロジーを使い続けているウェブサイトの存在を認識しており、そのようなユーザー向けにWindows 10上で動作するIEの提供を検討していることが明らかにされています。

提供される予定のIEにはSpartanと同じデュアルレンダリングエンジンが用いられることになっており、IE環境下においても最新のウェブスタンダードを活用できることを保証するよう検討されているとのこと。

なお、この措置はあくまでも「レガシーサポート」の一環として実施されるものであり、実際のWindows 10リリース時にどのような形で提供されるかはまだ不明です。The Vergeでは、発表会場で公表された映像に「Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview with Internet Explorer」と表示されていたことから、一部の企業向けバージョンに限定されるのではないかと予想しています。

一般ユーザーレベルに与える影響はほとんどないと考えられる今回の措置ですが、一部のウェブデベロッパに与える影響については以下のように記載されています。詳細は今後もブログで発表されると思われるので、関連のある人は注目しておいたほうが良さそうです。

1．Our new rendering engine will be the default engine for Windows 10, Spartan, and Internet Explorer. This engine has interoperability at its core and consumes the same markup you send other modern browsers. Our standards support and roadmap can be found at http://status.modern.ie.

2．Public Internet web sites will be rendered using the new engine and modern standards, and legacy Internet Explorer behaviors including document modes are not supported in the new engine. If your web sites depends on legacy Internet Explorer behaviors we encourage you to update to modern standards.

3．Our goal is interoperability with the modern web and we need your help! You can test the new engine via the Windows Insider Program or using http://remote.modern.ie. Please let us know (via Connect or Twitter) when you find interoperability problems so we can work with the W3C and other browser manufacturers to ensure great interoperability.
