Qualcomm's 'Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders' benchmark measurement & review summary, reveals the CPU performance of the current machine

Qualcomm's first original smartphone, the

Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, was launched on August 27, 2021. ASUS designed and manufactured it, and I was able to touch the smartphone with built-in Qualcomm's SoC 'Snapdragon 888 ', so I tested its processing performance with the standard benchmark software ' Geekbench 5'.

◆ Summary

◆ Geekbench 5: CPU
For Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, as setting items related to battery use, 'high performance' that is optimal for apps with high required specifications, 'dynamic' that is recommended for general usage, and 'power saving' that achieves both performance and drive time. Since there is a function called system mode that allows you to select 'ultra power saving' that saves power as much as possible, change it to 'high performance mode' before starting the benchmark.

First, the CPU benchmark results are as follows. The single-core score is '1126', which surpasses

Samsung's Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G ...

The multi-core score was '3415'.

◆ Geekbench 5: COMPUTE (OpenCL)

Looking at the overall processing power with OpenCL, it looks like this. The score was '4697'.

◆ Geekbench 5: COMPUTE (Vulkan)

Vulkan 's score is '5749'.

Below is a graph comparing Vulkan scores for Android devices posted on Geekbench's

official website. Since the score of Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders is '5749', it is a score that is thin with Samsung's Galaxy S21 series, which occupies the top position.

◆ Geekbench ML: CPU

The Snapdragon 888 is powered by the 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine , which boasts a computing power of 26 trillion times per second (26TOPS). Therefore, I tried using 'Geekbench ML ', a benchmark that examines the AI performance of mobile devices.

As a result, the CPU score was '428'.

Below is a comparison graph of the Geekbench ML benchmark results. The top is almost the exclusive place of Apple devices, and the top of Android was '444' of Galaxy S21, so it seems that Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders has top class AI processing performance as an Android smartphone.

◆ Geekbench ML: GPU
The GPU performance

score is '1792'.

The comparison graph on the official website looks like this. The iPad is the only device with a higher score than the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, so it has the highest score for a non-tablet smartphone device.

◆ Summary
'Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders' has high basic performance such as 6.78 inch display with 144Hz refresh rate, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage, and can be used in various scenes from everyday use to gaming and photography. It is a high-end smartphone that supports 5G.

While Apple and Xiaomi have announced a policy of not attaching a charging adapter one after another, a charging adapter compatible with the quick charge standard 'Quick Charge 5' and a wireless earphone with a charging case are included as standard. Also, since the so-called clean Android 11, which is not pre-installed or customized by manufacturers' apps that are often used less often, is adopted as the OS, 'I want a pure Android terminal, but the Google Pixel series lacks power. It is perfect for users who say.

On the other hand, the fairly high price setting of 164,880 yen including tax is a bottleneck. In addition, it does not have the functions that many high-end smartphones have, such as dustproof / waterproof specifications and wireless charging, and even though it is Qualcomm's first original smartphone, it has a built-in in-screen fingerprint sensor of 'Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2'. Not so, the SoC is not the 'Snapdragon 888 Plus ' announced in June 2021, but the 'Snapdragon 888' announced in December 2020, and it is a little disappointing that Qualcomm's unique strengths are not good enough. I'm also a little worried that it wasn't officially announced at the time of writing whether it would support Android 12, which will be released in 2021.

Therefore, it is important to decide whether or not you are attracted to the high standard of SoC performance and the fact that it is possible to have a complete set of Qualcomm from the charger to the earphones without purchasing additional accessories. I felt that it was a key item.
