Google's AI-powered note-taking service, NotebookLM, has been renamed 'Gemini Notebook,' and its integration with other Google services and Gemini has also been strengthened.

Google's NotebookLM tool, which uses AI to analyze and organize documents, audio, and video, has been renamed to Gemini Notebook . Simultaneously, the enhanced integration with Google services and advanced analytical features involving code execution, previously only available to users of the top-tier paid Google AI Ultra plan, will now be added and expanded to all Pro users.

NotebookLM was announced at Google I/O 2023 in May 2023 and released in December of the same year. NotebookLM has a simple goal: 'to help people learn,' and its AI can generate answers and content using only the materials that are fed into the system as its information source.

Google stated, 'Today, we are changing the name of NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. It will continue to be a standalone product and the best research tool, but will now offer more functionality across the entire Google ecosystem, including Gemini apps and Google Search.'

In addition to the name change, it was also announced that Gemini Notebooks will now be created and viewed directly from within the Gemini app. This feature was announced in April 2026 and was initially released exclusively to users of Google AI Ultra, a higher-tier paid subscription plan, allowing users to create notebooks directly from the web version of Gemini.

Going forward, Google AI Pro users will also be able to access Notebooks from Google Search's AI mode. Google stated that this renaming further clarifies the integration of Gemini and NotebookLM, and that by further integrating with the Gemini app and Google Search, they aim to make Notebooks usable not only within specific services but also in a variety of situations where users conduct research and learning.

Furthermore, the code execution and expanded output formats were announced earlier on June 8th and were available on a trial basis to registered users of the paid subscription plan, Google AI Ultra, but these will now also be made available to Pro users. Code execution is a feature that assigns a 'secure cloud computer' to each notebook, allowing Gemini Notebook itself to write and execute code. This enables users to perform tasks such as aggregating numerical data contained in imported documents, formatting data of different formats, performing statistical processing, and creating graphs based on the documents.

Furthermore, the expanded output formats allow you to generate and edit graphs, PDFs, Word documents, Markdown, CSV, JSON, Excel, PowerPoint, and images, in addition to the existing audio and video summaries. For example, you can analyze multiple documents and tabular data and output the results as a PDF report with graphs or an Excel file.

In addition, while users previously had to prepare and add documents to their notebooks, Gemini Notebook will now offer a feature that allows users to start with vague ideas or questions, and use Google search to find relevant web resources and suggest potential additions. Users will still have control over which documents they actually add to their notebooks.

With this announcement, Google states that Pro users will also be able to use new features, including integration with Gemini and document search, within the next few weeks.
