Google's Gemini AI can customize the personality of conversational AI with new feature Gems



In December 2023, Google DeepMind released

Gemini , a multimodal AI capable of simultaneously processing text, voice, and images. Gemini has demonstrated high performance in natural interactions, but updates were announced at the developer event Google I/O , including the release of a new feature called Gems , which can analyze and graph spreadsheets to meet specific needs and customize the AI.

Gemini, which was officially released on December 6, 2023 local time, was announced in three models: the top-of-the-line model 'Gemini Ultra,' the 'Gemini Pro' that is compatible with a wide range of tasks, and the 'Gemini Nano' that is mainly installed on smartphones. Since then, Gemini Nano has become compatible with the Pixel 8 Pro , Google's chat AI 'Bard' has been renamed to Gemini, and it has beenreported that Apple will adopt Gemini to enhance AI functions for the iPhone, showing rapid growth.

At Google I/O, held on May 14, 2024 local time, an update to ' Gemini 1.5 Pro ' was announced. The update also includes the introduction of Gemini 1.5 Pro to the AI chat ' Gemini Advanced ,' and Google revealed that a 'data analysis function' will be added as a new feature to be added to Gemini Advanced in the future.

The newly added data analysis feature is that you can simply upload a spreadsheet and Gemini will analyze the data, create graphs, and give you faster insights. In the demo movie released by Google, multiple spreadsheets are loaded and Gemini is asked to 'use these sheets to visualize revenue and net profit margins.'



It will then determine the items in the spreadsheet and graph the desired data.



Google also announced a feature called 'Gems' that allows users to personalize Gemini. 'Whether you need a yoga partner or a calculus tutor, you can now customize Gemini. Customized Gemini saves you time by eliminating the need to start over multiple times,' Google explained.

Users who subscribe to Gemini Advanced can complete the setup by simply explaining what they want Gem to do and how they want it to respond. On the official page, as an example, the first input is 'You are my running coach. Please tell me your daily running plan. Please keep the conversation positive, cheerful, and motivating.' From then on, it is possible to smoothly communicate with Gemini, which has been customized for your running coach, without the need to preface it with 'I want to talk about running.'

In addition, the demo video shows how, in response to the input, 'I'm thinking of writing a short mystery with a twist. I've saved the basic plot in Google Drive. I'd appreciate your feedback on the plot and your help in coming up with ideas,' the video shows how Gemini Advanced's data analysis function provides feedback and Gemini's personalized response as an AI specialized in coming up with ideas is output.



The official release date of Gem has not yet been decided, but as of May 15, 2024, Google has announced that it will be 'within the next few months.'
