The memory shortage caused by AI demand is affecting not only business memory but also personal memory. RAM chips used in PCs are manufactured by three companies: Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix. Micron announced in December 2025 that it would withdraw from the consumer memory and storage business . Even after that, consumer memory prices remained high up to the time of writing this article.

Amidst this situation, it has been reported that CXMT, a Chinese memory manufacturer, is currently producing DDR5 memory for personal use. CXMT, founded in 2016, is already boasting of its successful development of DDR5 memory modules with a maximum speed of 8000Mbps.

New overseas media outlets VideoCardz and Tom's Hardware have reported that MSI has released a beta BIOS to enable high-speed operation of CXMT DDR5 memory. The beta BIOS is being rolled out in China and, for some reason, has not been released globally. Below is a screenshot released by VideoCardz showing CXMT DDR5 memory operating at DDR5-8200.

The screenshot includes a window from the hardware information display application '

The screenshot also includes results from the memory testing tool ' MemTest ,' showing that the system ran as DDR5-8200 and completed the test without errors.

VideoCardz has also released a screenshot showing Lexar's DDR5 memory, equipped with a CXMT chip, running at DDR5-8000 speed.

While it has been reported that CXMT's memory is 'not necessarily cheaper than Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix,' it is likely to contribute to an increase in the amount of DDR5 memory available on the market.
Furthermore, CXMT is listed on the U.S. Department of Defense's 'List of Chinese Military Enterprises,' and there are reports that Apple is seeking permission from the Trump administration to purchase CXMT memory.
