Nintendo's sales for the second quarter of 2025 were down 34.3% year-on-year to 523.2 billion yen, operating profit was down 56.6% year-on-year to 121.5 billion yen, ordinary profit was down 61.3% year-on-year to 147.1 billion yen, and interim net profit was down 59.9% year-on-year to 108.6 billion yen.
Nintendo's sales revenue of 523.2 billion yen for the same period was broken down as follows: 485.2 billion yen for game consoles (down 34.1% year-on-year), 31.2 billion yen for mobile and IP-related revenue (down 43.3% year-on-year), and 6.8 billion yen for other revenues, including merchandise sales at official stores (up 53.9% year-on-year). The reason for the decline in game console sales was that the sales volume of Nintendo Switch hardware and software was lower than the same period last year. The reason for the decline in mobile and IP-related revenue was mainly due to a decrease in video content revenue related to the movie 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie.' The breakdown of sales by region was 25.3% in Japan, 44.6% in the Americas, 22.4% in Europe, and 7.7% elsewhere, with overseas sales accounting for 74.7%.
During the same period, sales of the Nintendo Switch family decreased 31.0% year-on-year to 4.72 million units (1.26 million Nintendo Switch units, 2.5 million OLED models, and 970,000 Nintendo Switch Lite units), and software sales decreased 27.6% year-on-year to 70.28 million units. There were nine million-seller titles during the same period, six of which were Nintendo titles and three were software publisher titles.
Digital sales for the same period were down 26.5% year on year to 159.9 billion yen. Digital sales fell significantly year on year, mainly due to a decrease in sales of packaged downloadable software and add-on content for Nintendo Switch.
According to financial statements released by Nintendo, it was revealed that 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' recorded sales of 3.62 million copies between January 1 and September 30, 2024, as reported by games media GamesRadar+ . The best-selling Nintendo title in the second quarter of 2025 was ' The Legend of Zelda: The Legend of Zelda ,' which sold 2.58 million copies in the four days after its release. Therefore, as of September 30, 2024, 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' is said to be the 'best-selling Nintendo title in 2024.'
As of the end of September 2024, according to Nintendo's official website , the cumulative sales of 'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' was 64.27 million copies, making it the best-selling title for the Nintendo Switch.
