Comparing the differences between Reolink's 4K security cameras 'TrackMix PoE' and 'RLC-833A' & connecting them to a Synology NAS
I got my hands on the Reolink security cameras ' TrackMix PoE ' and ' RLC-833A ', which can shoot at 4K and 25FPS and have night vision for perfect nighttime shooting, so I decided to compare the two and check the steps to connect them to a Synology NAS.

Difference between TrackMix PoE and RLC-833A
The TrackMix PoE (left) is 110mm wide x 228mm high, and weighs 1228g. The RLC-833A (right) is 118mm in diameter x 90mm high, and weighs 548g.
Here's what it looks like from the side. The biggest difference between the two is that only the TrackMix PoE has an automatic rotation mechanism, whereas the RLC-833A must be rotated manually.
The viewing angle of the TrackMix PoE is up to 104 degrees horizontally and 60 degrees vertically, while the viewing angle of the RLC-833A is up to 94 degrees horizontally and 53 degrees vertically, so the TrackMix PoE can capture a wider range. Images taken with two cameras from the same location are shown below.
In addition, the TrackMix PoE camera can automatically rotate nearly 360 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically, allowing you to see almost 360 degrees around you except directly above.

The footage shot with TrackMix PoE is as follows:

Below is a video taken from the same location with the RLC-833A. Both have a maximum resolution of 3840x2160 and a maximum frame rate of 25 FPS. The video format for the RLC-833A is H.265 only, while the TrackMix PoE supports H.264 and H.265.

Next, I shot a dark place. Both cameras are equipped with infrared night vision, but the maximum shooting range of the RLC-833A is 30m, while the TrackMix PoE is only 15m. Perhaps because of this, the TrackMix PoE's distant objects appear dark.
When the camera detects motion in the dark, the spotlight will automatically turn on. After turning on, the colors will be clearer.
Both TrackMix PoE and RLC-833A can be operated, video checked, and video downloaded from the PC client software or smartphone app. Any number of security cameras can be connected to the client software, and up to 12 channels of video can be viewed simultaneously. The client software allows you to do two-way calls, create time lapse videos, sound an alarm, turn on a spotlight, enlarge the video, record, take snapshots, etc., and both have almost the same functions, but the difference is that only TrackMix PoE can operate the camera remotely.
The maximum zoom factor of TrackMix PoE is 6x, while the RLC-833A is 3x. Below are images of TrackMix PoE before and after zoom.
Here's a before and after of zooming with the RLC-833A. The lettering on the sign, located about 5.5m away from the camera, was only visible with TrackMix PoE.
When we measured the operating temperature, the TrackMix PoE fluctuated around 46°C in an environment with a room temperature of about 25°C. According to
In an environment with a room temperature of about 26 degrees, the RLC-833A rose to nearly 53 degrees. According to the specifications page , the RLC-833A's operating temperature is -10°C to +50°C, so it's a concern that it can easily exceed that temperature. In the review, there were no particular problems even after running it continuously for nearly two weeks, but it is probably best to avoid placing it in places exposed to direct sunlight.
◆I tried connecting TrackMix PoE and RLC-833A to Synology's NAS.
TrackMix PoE and RLC-833A support a protocol called RTSP , so you can connect them to a Synology NAS (a different manufacturer) to store recordings all the time, and view footage in real time from Synology's camera management tool. This time, we'll go through the connection procedure from scratch.
First, click the camera's settings icon in the client software, then click 'Network Information' from the 'Network' tab.
Next, click 'Network Settings'.
Switch the connection type from 'DHCP' to 'Static'.
Then click 'Save.'
Next, go back to the Network tab and this time click Advanced.
Click 'Server Settings'.
Check 'RTSP' and 'ONVIF' and click 'Save'.
Next, access the NAS via Synology's
Once you have created the alias or port, click Next.
Check the settings and click Finish.
Next, access Surveillance Station.
Click 'IP Camera'.
Click 'Add'.
Cameras connected to the same network as the NAS will be displayed, so select them and click 'Next'.
Then click 'Authenticate'.
Enter the password you set when setting up the camera and click 'Authenticate'.
If authentication is successful, a check mark will appear in the status. Then click 'Next'.
Select 'Quick Setup' and click 'Next'.
Click “Finish”.
After a while the connection will be successful.
You can now view the camera footage via Surveillance Station.
By default, recordings are saved to the NAS at 30-minute intervals. At the time of writing, the recordings had been saved without interruption for over a week.
In addition to continuous recording every 30 minutes, when an event (motion) is detected, the event video is also saved separately. If you leave the initial settings as they are, you may continue recording endlessly and the storage may become full, so it is a good idea to check 'Keep files' to automatically delete recordings after a specified number of days have passed, or set the archive folder to limit its capacity.
Alternatively, you can set it to delete old recordings or stop recording when the folder is full.
Surveillance Station is free to use, but you can only add up to two cameras. If you want to add more than that, you need to purchase
When I opened the license pack I received, there was a card inside.
The license key was printed on the back of the card.
Click 'License' from the Surveillance Station menu.
Click 'Add'.
Read the license agreement, check the box and click 'Next'.
Enter your license key and click 'Add'.
Click Finish.
This completes the process. Since we added a pack with 4 licenses this time, we can now add a total of 6 cameras, in addition to the default of 2.
Summary
Unlike the TrackMix PoE, the RLC-833A requires you to manually change the camera direction, but it can shoot 4K at 25 FPS and also supports night shooting, and considering that the price difference between the TrackMix PoE and the RLC-833A is nearly 18,000 yen, it is a sufficient device for those who think that 'the camera direction is fixed. On the other hand, the TrackMix PoE is useful when you want to shoot a wide range, and it is convenient when you want to cover an area that the RLC-833A cannot capture with one unit.
TrackMix PoE and RLC-833A can be purchased from AliExpress in Japan. The list price of TrackMix PoE is 51,294 yen including tax, but at the time of writing, it is on sale for 22,337 yen including tax.
