Valve has released the beta version of ' Steam Family ,' which allows you to centrally manage 'family members' who can share your Steam game library. When you join a Steam Family, you give members access to the ' Family Sharing ' and ' Parental Control ' features. A maximum of six people can join a Steam Family.

◆Family Sharing
When you join a Steam Family, you'll have access to shareable games owned by other family members, and other family members will have access to shareable games in your library.

'Shareable' refers to games that the game developers have allowed to be shared. You can find a list of these games at this link .

Family members can access the game owner's library and play games even if the game owner is offline. However, they cannot play the games the owner is playing at the same time. In addition, save data and achievements for games played by family members are saved separately from the owner's.

The 'Family Sharing' feature itself has existed for some time, but it has limitations such as 'the borrower must log in with the lender's account' and 'you can lend unilaterally with one setup, but you cannot borrow or lend in person. In order to lend or borrow, you must set up 'lending' on each of your accounts.' Now that Family Sharing can be done through Steam Family, it can be said that the setup has been greatly simplified.

The previous Family Sharing was limited to a maximum of 5 accounts and 10 devices, but the new Family Sharing does not mention any device limits.

◆Parental Control
This is a feature that allows parents to manage the content and playtime that their children play. Family members have the roles of 'adult' and 'child', and adult members can manage the activities of their child members. The items that can be managed are as follows.

- Allowing game access as deemed appropriate
- Restricting access to the Steam store, community, and friend chat
- Set play time limit (hours/days)
- Check play time report
- Approving or denying requests for additional playtime or feature access from a child account
- Account recovery if a child member loses their password

In addition, a purchasing process has been introduced in which a child member requests to 'buy a game' and the parent member approves it. Until now, the only risky method was to 'register a credit card to a child's account,' but this update has made it safer.

Please note that the above feature replaces the existing '

Family View ' feature.
