Elon Musk appoints former NBCUniversal CEO Linda Yaccarino as new CEO of Twitter



Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter and became its CEO , initially left important decisions about Twitter's operations to users in the form of surveys, even conducting a survey asking ' Should I step down as CEO of Twitter? ' Although the majority of votes were calling for Musk to step down as CEO, he responded to comments such as ' the votes were done by bots ' by declaring that ' if anyone is stupid enough to take on the role of CEO of Twitter, I will step down immediately, ' and stated that he would continue as CEO for the time being. Musk had tweeted that he had appointed a woman as the new CEO of Twitter, and it has now been revealed that this woman is Linda Yaccarino, head of advertising at NBCUniversal .

On May 12, 2023, Musk tweeted, 'I'm excited to announce that I've hired a new CEO for Twitter (X). She will join in 6 weeks. My role will transition to Executive Chairman and CTO, overseeing product, software, and systems operators,' revealing that the new CEO replacing him would be a woman.




Several media outlets have since reported that NBCUniversal advertising chief Linda Yaccarino is set to become Twitter's next CEO. While Yaccarino has neither confirmed nor denied the reports, she did announce that she would be stepping down from her role as Twitter's advertising chief.

On May 13, 2023, Musk tweeted on his Twitter account, 'I'm excited to welcome Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter! Linda will focus primarily on Twitter's business operations, and I'll focus on product design and new technology. I look forward to working with Linda to transform Twitter into X, which includes all of our apps,' revealing that he had appointed Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter.




Yaccarino has worked at NBCUniversal since 2011, prior to which he spent nearly two decades as vice president of advertising at Turner. In 2018, he was appointed by former President Donald Trump to serve on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.

In addition, Musk responded to an interview with Yaccarino at an advertising-related conference held on April 18, 2023, and in the interview Yaccarino praised Musk, saying, 'Elon strives to make sure that anyone can receive continuous feedback.'

It's unclear whether Musk and Yaccarino were in negotiations for the CEO job at Twitter at the time the interview was conducted, but TechCrunch noted, 'Given that key aspects of Twitter's business have been ruined since Musk took over leadership, putting a prominent advertising executive at the helm of the company seems like a smart move.'

Yaccarino, who took over as CEO from Musk, has not updated his Twitter account at the time of writing and has not yet posted his first tweet as the new CEO. On the other hand, Musk tweeted, 'As soon as Linda is ready, I will create a space where you can ask me any questions.'
