◆ 1: Measure the processing power of CPU and GPU with 'Geekbench 5'
The system information etc. acquired when ' Geekbench 5 ' is started are like this. The OS is Windows 11 Home (64bit), and the installed memory is 32GB (DDR5 SDRAM). The processor is Intel's 12th generation Core processor, Core i7-1255U (2.6 GHz).
The result of the CPU benchmark is that the single core score is ``1199'' (encryption: 3003 / integer arithmetic: 1044 / floating point arithmetic: 1234), the multicore score is ``6676'' (encryption: 6607 / integer arithmetic: 6548 / floating Decimal point operation: 6965). The AMD Ryzen 7 3780U (2.0HGz)-equipped Surface laptop 4, which will be released in the spring of 2021, has a score of 561 for single core and 4096 for multi-core, which is significantly higher.
The benchmark result of GPU (Intel Iris Xe graphics) is '17761' in OpenCL.
The Surface laptop 4 was equipped with AMD Radeon graphics, with an OpenCL score of 14745 and a Vulkan score of 17896.
◆ 2: Verify game performance with 'FINAL FANTASY XV WINDOWS EDITION Benchmark'
Next, in order to check the gaming performance, I ran '
The results are as follows. The operation during the benchmark is also really heavy, and it is basically not suitable for playing heavyweight games.
drawing resolution | graphic quality | Score | evaluation |
1920×1080 pixels | high quality | 1535 | difficult to operate |
1920×1080 pixels | standard quality | 1844 | difficult to operate |
1920×1080 pixels | lightweight quality | 2900 | somewhat heavy |
1280×720 pixels | high quality | 2079 | heavy |
1280×720 pixels | standard quality | 3141 | usually |
1280×720 pixels | lightweight quality | 4070 | usually |
◆ 3: Measure performance with 'PassMark PerformanceTest' and compare with Surface Laptop 4
I also tried running ' PassMark PerformanceTest ' which benchmarks with 5 items: CPU, 2D graphics, 3D graphics, memory, and disk.
The overall score is '3428'. This ranks in the top 43% of the scores compiled by PassMark PerformanceTest. However, the world average is 4335, so it is slightly below the average.
Comparing the score with Surface Laptop 4 (top), it looks like this. The score of Surface Laptop 4 is '4712', surpassing Surface Laptop 5.
Surface Laptop 4 also wins the CPU score.
2D graphics are almost double score for Surface Laptop 4.
However, 3D graphics are reversed by Surface Laptop 5.
Surface Laptop 5 also wins memory.
As for the disk, Surface Laptop 5 made a big difference to 4. The total score difference seems to be mainly due to the CPU performance.
Next, we verified the driving time of the battery and whether it was hot enough to be taken out and used on the lap.
