The 255-year-old work was auctioned off at Christie 's, the same auction house that also handled Leonardo da Vinci 's legendary ' Salvator Mundi .' The successful bidder will gain ownership of an NFT of the work, which they can use and resell as they wish.

Beeple has previously sold two other works for approximately $3.5 million and $67,000. Grimes, another digital artist, has also sold a 10-second movie for approximately $390,000 , drawing attention to the value of NFTs.
