Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, revealed during an earnings call held on January 21, 2026, that the company has been testing a vertical video feed for mobile video streaming over the past few months, including clipped videos of streaming content. Netflix plans to add content such as video podcasts, which began streaming in January 2026, to this vertical video feed.

'We'll be adding more clips based on new content types, like video podcasts, and incorporating the appropriate components into the vertical video feed,' Peters said.

Additionally, Peters said the company is working on a new mobile user interface that will 'further support our business growth over the next decade.' He explained, 'It's expected to be rolled out in the second half of 2026, and just like our TV UI, this will be a starting point and a platform for us to continually iterate, test, evolve, and improve our services.'

The Hollywood Reporter, an entertainment media outlet, pointed out that 'Netflix's move comes as consumers increasingly watch content on their smartphones and as the company investigates competitive threats, including social media platforms like Instagram.'

Ted Sarandos, the other co-CEO, emphasized that streaming services are no longer the only competitors, saying, 'Amazon owns MGM , Apple is competing for the Emmys and Oscars, and Instagram is close behind. YouTube has surpassed the BBC in average monthly viewership. We are competing for people's attention across a wider range of options: streaming, broadcast, cable, games, social media, major tech companies, and video platforms.'
