Disney+ Adding Vertical Videos In Push To Boost Daily Engagement

As part of an advertising-related announcement made at the CES 2026 event on January 7, 2026 local time, Disney Executive Vice President of Entertainment Erin Teague said, 'We are exploring all options for how we can deliver vertical video on Disney+.' ESPN , a Disney-owned sports channel, introduced a vertical video feature called 'Verts' in its app in the summer of 2025, and based on the response, Disney+ is likely aiming to expand its vertical video content offerings.

Regarding vertical video on Disney+, Teague said, 'Our goal is to explore different ways to use it, regardless of category or type of content, to provide a personalized and dynamic feed. Of course, we're looking to integrate vertical video in a way that naturally fits into our users' core behavioral patterns. We want to evolve this experience over time.' Teague also noted that Gen Z and younger Gen Alpha members are less likely to watch long-form content of more than two hours on their smartphones, emphasizing the need for short videos that will make them want to access Disney+ at any time.
It has been revealed that vertical videos are not simply trailers for feature films, but are seen as a measure to enhance the overall service experience. Deadline, a media outlet that interviewed Disney executives, reported that 'in addition to reusing clips and social clips from feature-length episodes and feature films, there is also the possibility of creating original short films.'
At the time of writing, the specific launch date and availability of vertical video on Disney+ have not been announced.
