YouTube Shorts now supports videos up to 3 minutes long
YouTube has announced that it will extend the length of videos that can be uploaded to YouTube Shorts, a vertical video sharing service that allows users to share videos of up to 60 seconds, to a maximum of three minutes.

According to YouTube, starting on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, the maximum length of videos that can be uploaded to YouTube Shorts will be three minutes. This was 'the most requested feature from creators,' and applies to videos with an aspect ratio that is longer than a square (1:1).
'Shorts makes storytelling even more immersive, and we're excited to give you even more flexibility in how you tell your stories,' said Todd Sherman, director of product management for YouTube Shorts.
YouTube Shorts is a feature that was officially implemented in 2020 to compete with the short video sharing service TikTok. TikTok has extended the length of videos that can be uploaded to a maximum of 3 minutes in 2021.
In addition, TikTok was reported in May 2024 to be testing a feature that would extend the length of videos that can be uploaded to a maximum of 60 minutes. While YouTube Shorts competes with TikTok with short videos, TikTok is expanding its service as a platform where long videos can be uploaded like YouTube.
