YouTube aims to become a new streaming hub by expanding its 'Primetime Channels' like Amazon's Prime Video Channels.

Some Amazon Prime Video users are using 'Prime Video Channels,' which allows them to subscribe to additional paid channels such as 'NHK On Demand' and 'd Anime Store for Prime Video' and watch their content. In 2022, YouTube launched 'Primetime Channels' in the US, allowing users to subscribe to 30 additional subscription services, including Paramount Plus, SHOWTIME and STARZ.
However, YouTube's Primetime Channels are less prominent than similar services such as Amazon's Prime Video Channels, and are placed in less prominent locations. This means that interested users have to actively search for and subscribe to the Primetime channels themselves, and YouTube's revenue from this feature has been limited.

YouTube is reportedly planning to soon revamp its interface and Primetime Channels offering to act as a streaming hub that could become a new revenue stream for YouTube.
At the time of writing, it is unclear what form the changes will take, whether it will be a major overhaul of YouTube as a whole or just a redesign that repositions it to a more prominent place on the YouTube home screen. It is also reported that more paid content will be added, but it is not known what channels and services will be included.
Additionally, YouTube may also adopt features more similar to other streaming services, such as autoplaying previews and allowing creators to organize series of videos into seasons or episodes.
What is particularly important is that this is expected to be a feature of the YouTube TV app. YouTube CEO Neil Mohan said in February 2025 that 'YouTube has become the new TV,' and the main platform for YouTube usage is shifting from PCs and smartphones to smart TVs, so it makes sense for YouTube to focus on the TV app, according to the IT news site Android Headlines.

However, it has been pointed out that YouTube's fundamental changes will inevitably have an impact on mobile and desktop users, so users who use YouTube on a PC browser or smartphone app are also expected to be affected by the Primetime Channel update.
'We haven't heard a specific date for when this initiative will begin, but we expect the expansion to be a major focus for YouTube through the end of next year,' Android Authority said, suggesting that it will be implemented sometime between 2025 and 2026.
