According to ESET, there are still 32 million PCs running Windows 10 in Germany. This is about 65% of all Windows PCs used in German homes. Although support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, Windows 11 still accounts for 33% (about 16.5 million PCs) in Germany, and there are also more than 1 million PCs using older versions of Windows such as Windows XP/7/8/8.1.

According to data from research company StatCounter , the share of Windows by version from December 2023 to December 2024 is as follows: As of December 2024, Windows 10 (62.7%) still accounts for over 60% of the total, followed by Windows 11 (34.12%).

ESET has warned that the end of official support for Windows 10 could bring a variety of issues beyond security, including software and hardware compatibility issues, and that organizations could risk violating cybersecurity regulations if they do not upgrade their Windows operating systems before the end of support.

ESET points out that the reason for Windows 11's low adoption rate is its relatively strict hardware requirements: Microsoft has made it clear that it has no plans to relax these standards, announcing that it plans to build TPM 2.0 security into all Windows 11 devices.
