Bluesky adds new features such as 'separate quote posts' and 'hide replies' to combat harassment

Bluesky has announced that version 1.90 includes new features to prevent harmful behavior such as harassment and pressure, as part of efforts to improve reliability and safety.

◆Separation of quoted posts
Like X, Bluesky allows users to quote other people's posts and post with their own comments, but there are cases where the quote slanders the original post. Now, the original poster can detach such posts.

Once a citation has been posted, the number of citations will be displayed like this.

Clicking on the 'Quote' section will show you what kind of quotes are posted. In this case, it was a harmless post, but there are also cases where it is used for harassment.

Click the '...' icon at the bottom right of the post and you will see a menu with 'Detach quote' option.

When you try to run it, a confirmation dialog will appear, so click 'Yes, detach.'

The quote post was then separated from the original post.

The quoted part of the quote post has been changed to say 'Deleted by the poster.'

The number of 'quotes' from the original post remained the same.

However, clicking 'Quote' no longer displayed the detached post.

◆ Hide replies
When someone replies to your post, you can now choose to hide the reply either 'Hidden only to you' or 'Hidden from everyone.'

◆Priority notification
A checkbox called 'Enable priority notifications' has been added to the settings in the 'Notifications' menu. If you check this, you will only receive reply and quote notifications from users you follow. Other notification conditions will be added in the future.

◆ Change how replies are displayed
Until now, Bluesky has positioned posts and replies as having equal visibility, with all replies displayed in the feed of those you follow. However, going forward, we will reduce the frequency with which replies appear in your feed, and only show conversations between two or more people you follow.

In conjunction with this change, when you reply to an older post, that older post will now be brought to the top of your followers' feeds, eliminating the need to repost when digging through old posts, and making it easier to view replies by connecting them together.

In addition, you can exclude lists created by the creator of the ' Starter Pack ' or 'Curated User List' list by blocking that creator.

They say they will be taking further steps to combat ban evasion, botnets, and other harmful activity in the future.
