We checked out the volume and usability of the Potara, a fusion of an LED light and a security alarm

' Potara ', a combination of a security alarm and an LED light, will be released on Friday, July 26, 2024. Potara can be worn around the neck with both hands free, and is useful for walking, commuting to work or school, etc. King Jim sent Potara to the GIGAZINE editorial department ahead of time, so we checked its appearance and the volume of the buzzer.

The Potara package looks like this. Potara comes in three colors: white, black, and pink. I'll be using black this time.

Inside the package were the Potara itself, two button batteries, and an instruction manual.

This is what the Potara looks like: It has a circular speaker and LED light on the front.

When you pull the top of the unit upwards, the buzzer will sound.

The video below shows the volume of the buzzer measured with a sound level meter placed 20cm away from the Potala. The volume was 105dBA, which is loud enough to hurt your ears.

On the back is the LED light switch and battery cover.

The battery uses two CR2032 button batteries.

There are no switches on the side.

There is nothing on the other side either.

The straps are designed to separate when pulled too hard, preventing accidental snagging around the neck.

The dimensions are 40mm wide x 20mm deep x 76mm high, and the actual weight is 44g.

This is what it looks like when you hang it around your neck. It doesn't feel particularly heavy.

If you pull the main unit hard, the buzzer will sound. The Potara is easy to hold, so it seems like you can sound the buzzer without any problems even in an emergency situation. Also, since you need to pull it firmly with force to make the buzzer sound, it's unlikely that it will sound just by walking.

This is what it looks like when you turn on the LED light in a pitch black room. It's bright enough to let people around you know you're there. The Potara can also be used as an 'LED light that you can use with your hands free,' so we recommend carrying it around with you as a safety LED light at night.

Potara is scheduled to be released on Friday, July 26, 2024 for 2,500 yen excluding tax. At the time of writing, it can be reserved on Amazon.co.jp for 2,750 yen including tax.
