Zen 5 Architecture
AMD's mobile processors, the Ryzen AI 300 series, and desktop processors, the Ryzen 9000 series, both use the latest Zen 5 architecture, which significantly improves performance and efficiency. The biggest improvement in the Ryzen AI 300 series is that it integrates the XDNA 2 NPU to support Microsoft's AI PC, Copilot + PC . This allows the Ryzen AI 300 series to achieve AI performance of up to 50 TOPS.

A key feature of the Zen 5 architecture is said to include dual-pipe fetching. Dual-pipe fetching, combined with what AMD calls Advanced Branch Prediction, is designed to reduce latency and improve accuracy and throughput. Enhanced instruction cache latency and bandwidth optimizations can also increase data flow and processing speed without sacrificing accuracy.

Zen 5 integer performance is an upgrade over Zen 4, with Zen 5 featuring an 8-wide dispatch/retire system. Zen 5's internal improvements also include 6 ALUs and 3 multipliers controlled by an

ALU scheduler, as well as larger execution windows.

Other Zen 5 enhancements include a 48KB 12-way L1 data cache that provides greater data bandwidth and four-cycle loads than Zen 4. Compared to the previous generation Zen 4, the maximum bandwidth available to the L1 cache is doubled and the floating-point unit is also doubled. AMD also claims to have improved the data prefetcher, resulting in faster and more reliable data access and processing.

In addition, Zen 5 adopts AVX-512 as its instruction architecture, introducing a full 512-bit AI data path and a two-cycle latency FADD with six pipelines. Zen 4 also supports AVX-512, but it uses two 256-bit data paths that work in tandem with each other. In contrast, Zen 5's AVX-512 provides a full 512-bit data path, which technology media Anandtech praised as a 'welcome improvement.'

AMD claims that Zen 5 has an average IPC improvement of 16% compared to Zen 4. Below is a graph summarizing the IPC increase rate for each game and benchmark software that AMD used internally to compare the performance of Zen 5 and Zen 4. In the benchmark software Geekbench 5.4, the IPC has improved by an average of 35%.

The full-featured 'Zen 5' cores will be manufactured on TSMC's 4nm process, while the more compact and power-efficient 'Zen 5c' cores will be manufactured on TSMC's 3nm process technology. AMD's next 5th generation EPYC CPU, 'Turin,' is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2024 and will feature up to 192 Zen 5 cores.

◆Ryzen AI 300 Series
The Ryzen AI 300 series includes the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the Ryzen AI 9 365. The detailed specifications of the two are as follows. The lower model Ryzen AI 9 365 has a smaller number of Zen 5c, which is a highly efficient core.

AMD has also published a chart comparing the performance of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 with competing products, the Intel Core Ultra 9 and the Snapdragon X Elite.

It outperforms the competition in all aspects of gaming performance.

At the time of writing, the Ryzen AI 300 series only includes the above two models, but because the TDP is quite wide, ranging from 15 to 54 W, it is expected that the Ryzen AI 300 series will be adopted in a wide range of notebook PCs, from thin and light mobile notebook PCs to high-spec notebook PCs that can be used as a replacement for desktop PCs.

◆Ryzen 9000 series
Four models have been announced for the Ryzen 9000 series: Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X. These are scheduled to be released on July 31, 2024.

The detailed specifications of the four processors announced as the Ryzen 9000 series are as follows:

In addition, the Ryzen 9000 series will introduce a new overclocking feature called 'Curve Shaper', an improved version of the 'Curve Optimizer' that was installed on CPUs from Zen 3 onwards. Curve Shaper allows users to fine-tune the voltage curve in 15 different frequency and temperature bands, allowing users to stably control power and CPU frequency. With the advent of Curve Shaper, users can maximize the performance of the Ryzen 9000 series to its limits.
