According to a user who tested the version under development, a new special timeline feed has been added where users can invite other users to join. When two people join Blend, they will see posts that they think will interest both of them, as well as recommended posts based on the 'reels' that either of them has shared, creating a timeline just for the two of them.

Instagram has not shared specific details about the feature or whether Blend will be updated continuously with new recommended posts or after a certain period of time. The feature is expected to increase discovery and watch time for Reels, potentially helping Instagram compete with TikTok in the short-form video sharing market.

In 2022, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that 'friends are posting more to their stories and sending each other more DMs than they are posting to their feeds,' suggesting that users tend to prefer a more private space rather than discussing content in a place where everyone can see it.

As a result, the company is taking a more targeted approach, including adding a new option to share posts from your feed with only your close friends, which experts said will 'make this a more engaging in-app element that prioritizes group experiences over actual content discovery.'
