Threads is officially starting to test ActivityPub integration - The Verge
ActivityPub is a protocol that allows social networking services to interoperate with each other, allowing users to view and migrate their profiles, followers, posts, etc. across different services.
Mastodon, Misskey, and others have already implemented ActivityPub, and Thread has also been preparing to integrate with ActivityPub for some time.
On December 14, 2023, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted to Threads, 'We will begin testing a way for posts from Threads accounts to be available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol,' making it clear that Threads is finally moving towards the official implementation of ActivityPub.
Connecting with other social networks through ActivityPub was a goal of the Threads team from the beginning, and Instagram's head of content Adam Mosseri once said, 'Decentralizing the platform is key to enabling a new generation of creators.'
At the start of the test, CEO Zuckerberg commented, 'Making Threads interoperable gives users more choice and helps their content reach more people.'
