Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta, said, 'Powerful technologies like generative AI are advancing rapidly, so it's understandable that people are excited about the possibilities but also concerned about the risks. We believe the best way to address these concerns is through openness.' He also shared information about the AI used by Facebook and Instagram.

The Discover tab's AI recommendation system collects public content (such as photos and reels) on Instagram that adheres to Meta's quality and integrity rules .
2. Use signals
AI recommendation systems take into account how users have engaged with similar content and interests, known as input signals.
3: Content ranking
The system ranks the content from the previous step 2 and pushes content that it predicts will be of most interest to users to the top of the Discover tab.

Meta also announced that it will begin rolling out a new suite of tools for researchers in the coming weeks: a Content Library and API. The Content Library and API contain a large amount of public data from Instagram and Facebook that can be searched, discovered, and filtered. Meta explained that access to these tools can be requested through approved partners, including the University of Michigan's Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research.
Meta explains that these tools will help it meet its compliance obligations around data sharing and transparency.
