"Man eating eagle Toriko" Countdown 5 more days. For a company employee Hen - YouTube

GIGAZINE (hereinafter, G):
This time it is said that he served as the director of the countdown CM of "Man eating Ogre Toriko", but CM thinks the production method is totally different from movies. Could you tell me exactly what Matsuoka did in this CM production?

Matsuoka:
Not only this time but my job in the CM is directing. It is at the beginning of the production that the story and the characters of the characters are presented in a roughly written planning contest and it is the first time to think about how to cook it. Based on the proposed project contest, I will make a more specific depiction of what kind of picture and what kind of conversation will be done. For example, if this "eating eagle Toriko" is this, how do you plan to make characters waiting for release for seven years? Those that have been dropped in with pictures and letters are called "production contests", and it is the stage that evolved from the planning contest. I will boil down with the team from there and make a shooter's shop. That is the preparation stage. That's why I accepted what I was asked for and what kind of world view I should draw.

G:
Does Matsuoka handle a lot of CM as well as movies and TV dramas?

Matsuoka:
To tell the truth, I have looked into my CM's work collection during this time. I knew that it made 100 or more. Since I was experienced the director of the CM since the 1990's, it may be an experienced person already (laugh) The person who finally watched the feeling after reading the detailed depiction in the frame of 1 hour 30 minutes or 2 hours Although it is the job of the film director to give it, CM is only 15 seconds or 30 seconds. The advertisement expression that I had to paint in an extremely short time of 15 seconds or 30 seconds was not clear at the beginning. For example, I thought what I would describe in a single cut, "Can you do that?"

G:
I feel it seems difficult even if I hear it now.

Matsuoka:
When it's a movie, since there is a screenplay and the scale is long, I can gradually build a drama, but I realized that there are parts in common with movies even when the scale is short, I experienced it. Even in movies and commercials, you can predict "images of this moment of a person are necessary" at the shooter's spot, and that moment is enough as long as there is one second. But even if you say "Please do that moment soon", the "moment" is ambiguous, so the actor can not. So character setting becomes important. For example, a character appearing in a setting may be a salaried worker and may be the manager of a game shop. Then, what kind of person is it? Think about it. In searching for such a role, it is important that the annual income is roughly rough.

G:
Is annual income important?

Matsuoka:
Assuming the economy and lifestyle, human beings are coming up a little. "The earnings of this salaried worker will be over 6 million yen in Tokyo's average annual income, but I have not said 10 million yen." "Is this couple's house a rental or a sale?" "Because the annual income is about this, the loan is We will be organizing it in 30 to 35 years ", and so on, consider the following thought whether you are satisfied with your life or whether your marital relationship is good. It fills the outer frame of the person who shapes it.

G:
Hmph.

Matsuoka:
I do not explain such character setting to the performer in detail, but since the background of the person is created, I will have it move within that setting. By doing so, the depth including the living feeling comes out as a living human image. Actual shooting does not use it for OK cut, but the actor will also perform acts before and after the moment when I think it is necessary.

G:
I see.

Matsuoka:
Any conversation is OK. "Have you eaten a cup of tea?" "Were you eating, did you eat?" "Yeah, I've been eating," starting acting, and as it is, I will connect to the moments I want. That way people will have a natural atmosphere and conversation. Of course, I have decided in advance what I want to do, such as dialogue, but sometimes it happens. There are times when I think that "a bad expression on the occasion when I forgot to speech and can not use it!"

G:
Is it possible to adopt what happened accidentally as "eventually" in the end?

Matsuoka:
Yes, in my case, I do not do much to change what I previously imagined.

G:
Why is that?

Matsuoka:
Looking at the failed take together, it seems very fresh and interesting at the beginning because it is something I do not even consider. However, there is a problem as to whether it seems that it is still fresh when seeing repeatedly as 50 times and 100 times. When you look at it many times, it is getting faded gradually, so it is better to take precautions when connecting a failed take. Whether it is a movie or a commercial, it may be seen 100 times, 200 times, or more, so we have to assume how many times you can withstand it.

G:
I see. Certainly we will see CM many times. This time "human eating Ogre Toriko" will become Web CM, did you play "seeing the eagle Toriko of human eating" and watching the video in making the commercial?

Matsuoka:
I have not played, but I saw the image.

G:
What kind of impression did you hold at that time?

Matsuoka:
Regarding the fact that it took seven years from the announcement to the release, I thought, "It's a long time to spend seven years and it's okay to express it well," but as to the main part of the game I know the details I thought that it was not necessary. Somewhat, I feel that I do not know better this time. In other words, a big gift comes to everyone. Even if I do not know what the gift is like, I understand what it is like to wait for something. I was totally awaited expectation and a sad melancholy, once I was released, the emotions that I had accumulated up to now are resolved, but that is the feeling that I feel somewhat lonesome, so I thought that I should concentrate here.

When planning a contest or preparing for shooting, "People eating Ogre Toriko" is flowing on the monitor, it was about half watching it. I can tell if we can see an extremely beautiful picture and elaborate depiction of Toriko, but I was conscious of trying not to look much because I thought that it would be better not to be affected.

G:
There are five CMs in all this time, and the theme is "the feeling of the user waiting for Toriko's release".PlayStation blogI was told that "I was concerned with the work that deliberately depicts the heartfelt feelings of people who have been waiting", but please tell me concretely, "Work to describe carefully".

"People eating Ogre Toriko" Countdown 4 more days. In case of a game shop Hen - YouTube

Matsuoka:
Whether it is the store manager of a game shop appearing in CM or a salaried man who happened to stop in front of a game shop, what is common to all the characters is "I have endured up to seven years while having a fair expectation" about it. Those people love "trash eagle eagle truly" so much that I have been waiting for seven years, but I am ashamed of putting that pleasure on the surface. "We do not talk about" I want to talk about "Eriashing eagle Toriko", but I will scoop out a momentary "expression" or "gang" that turns out to be something that my feelings are growing extremely. Not only "words" this time, I thought that "expression" when silent for a moment was important, I was paying attention to it.

G:
Because I was able to see all from the first one to the fifth one, I was also a person in the position I was waiting for, and after seeing the CM I decided to go to Jean, but I have an aim to impress that Is it?

Matsuoka:
Although there is a part that is calculated certainly, I am a person who does not think much about such things as "let's fall in tears here" or "let's impress it here". I'm drawing it rather refreshed. In the movie, there are some people who empathize more than me as a director. That is audience. I think that there are spectators who will receive something even if they do not make a deliberate depiction. I think that it is better not to have excessive hands making hands-on consciousness "let's impress".

The person who is looking at is impressed and cried because it is the result of the person kumking. Regarding "Moving" part, I would like to unconsciously appeal to those I am seeing.

G:
Thank you very much. From now on please let me question Matsuoka's own roots. When Matsuoka was in elementary school, I heard that he wanted to be a manga artist, but why? Did you have any work that was affected?

Matsuoka:
It was better than simply having an influenced work, just a picture. When I was in elementary school, I was elected to the contest or art teacher advised my parents that "This child is a way of painting", but when I was drawing a picture at one time There was a moment when I realized that "It is useless."

G:
Why did you feel it was useless?

Matsuoka:
I was intuitive thinking that "I am lying, I am trying to please adults, this picture is drawing a landscape." At the beginning, following the desire to draw anyway, I drew something I would like to draw with innocent feelings, but I began to care about what kind of evaluation it gets from others. It was terribly disgusting to continue painting while conscious of the evaluation.

G:
I see.

Matsuoka:
I was certainly in elementary school 6th grade or junior high school first grader that I started thinking "not good". I was interested in two of them at the time, manga and movie, but a rich, handsome, sports university classmate who I thought was absolutely unlikely to win, said "I will become a film director in the future" you know. I thought that I was going to be a film director by burning my opposing selfishly.

G:
Is that the first moment when the movie director was conscious then?

Matsuoka:
I agree. I can not win against him in everything, but the starting point is the same for becoming a film director. So I thought that movie director would win. Well, he would not have considered myself rival though (laugh)

G:
After that, when I entered high school, I heard that parents bought 8 mm camera. Was there a desire to take pictures from that time?

Matsuoka:
It was at the time of my first year in high school that I bought an 8 mm camera, and I had a desire to take pictures. Since I was a sophomore in high school I was taking one work a year, a poor work. I wrote the story myself and asked my friends to appear and filmed it for spring breaks and summer vacation.

G:
Did you show someone the work that was filmed then?

Matsuoka:
I showed it to my family and was carrying out screening at the time of the cultural festival. Sometimes I won a prize when I submitted a work taken before high school student graduation at "Pia Film Festival".

G:
After graduating from high school, I was admitted to Nihon University's Faculty of Arts in Film Department. Have you thought about getting into film work or training as an assistant director soon after graduating from high school?

Matsuoka:
I agree. I was not in a high school movie workshop, so I only saw ordinary audiences seeing movies. My parents did not go to high school or university, so I also wanted me to go to college about. Just saying "I am aiming for a film director" is free, so I told my parents about that ideal and went to Tokyo.

G:
After graduating from university, I heard that the dream of a film director was given up once in his twenties and he was working part-time with construction workers or bakeries.

Matsuoka:
After giving up the film director once, I moved the Tokyo metropolitan government as a construction worker and did a cleaning worker at the capital high speed. It's a yellow car running with a lamp in the middle of the night.

G:
Did you completely give up becoming a film director in the part-time job age?

Matsuoka:
I think it is a little sweet, but if I could accept the scenario I wrote, I was clinging to being able to film a movie. However, I realized that it was impossible to write the scenario in the middle of the night when I came back from manual labor. It is natural, but physical labor is very tiring. It was impossible for me to finish it by writing what I had thought until I had slept by just sleeping when I ate rice even if I got home. I gradually started feeling "just working to eat meal" and began to suffer as "Can I stay as it is?", And my parents were worried about my hometown (Aichi Prefecture Ichinomiya-shi ) I returned.

Since I came back to my parents house I was working part-time at a bakery. In such circumstances finally I was told to "get a job" from my parents, I went to a company to interview. From the Tokyo time when I was going to be hired by the company, I received a story about "Would you like to take a movie?" "I want to take only one ordinary movie everyone sees at the theater, since I really want to go back and work, I will go back to Tokyo only once," persuading my parents, I came to Tokyo again.

G:
At that time, OK did it come out smoothly?

Matsuoka:
My parents were a bit irritated, but I said, "If so, then ... then ..." I decided to go to Tokyo on a condition that I am going to watch it while waiting for a year or something.

G:
It is a debut work "Batahushi Goldfish" (1990), is not it?

Matsuoka:
That's right.

G:
Suddenly it is surprising that we have talked to "Would you like to supervise?"

Matsuoka:
There was a producer who saw my work that was selected at the "Pia Film Festival", and I came from there. Also, at the time it was said that the bubble economy was in the middle, and it was also great that there was a moment to try to debut even in young people in their twenties.

G:
Suddenly directorial debut is one thing that can hardly be thought of in other industries.

Matsuoka:
The fact that young people are suddenly selected for coaching is more than now when I made a debut.

G:
Really.

Matsuoka:
It is not uncommon to suddenly be selected as a director right now, but when I was there was the atmosphere of being told "Potato". It was told that "You can shoot while you are not practicing anything" why? I do not have a mentor in the movie director, whether it is an apprentice system now or now. There used to be a flow that everyone had teachers inherited from there. At that time many of the film directors were full-time employees of the movie company, but now freelance is commonplace.

G:
After making a debut with "Batahashi Goldfish", did you feel that "I want to take this kind of thing next time?"

Matsuoka:
There was not it at all. It was bigger feeling that I entered the terrible world (laugh) Even if I thought about how I will live for the next five years and ten years "I will be dried again if I fail next time" It is.

G:
Ask students who are now aiming for film director advice on what to do in school days to be a film director.

Matsuoka:
It is to see various kinds of images. Whether it's movies, commercials or anything, always watch the video anyway. Also, as it becomes increasingly clear that images are actually languages, it is also important to perceive images as language. Reading a long novel accordingly, maybe reading letters. It is not self-enlightening book that you can read carefully.

Dare to read Dostoevsky's books. Suspended reading and fast reading are not good. As you pinch the page, it is reading while turning licking. Also, what I often say to young writers is not only to read, but also to write in letters. Make a note of everything that comes up. It may be a diary to write down, whatever suddenly I think about it, such as sudden inspiration or movie impression. Anyway please write inside of your mind at that time. Looking back at the note that I wrote a few years ago, I sometimes get inspiration, "Oh yeah, I thought that I wanted to make this a theme" or "This is a good thing written" or such Thinking exchange "is necessary.

Another important thing in aiming at film director is to value encounters. How you interact with others is very important for those involved in expression. Because I met a certain person, not only did I get a job, it gave me stimulation. And, in order to deepen human relations further, we need to cultivate language sense. For example, Twitter is restricted in the number of characters of posts, and since users have restrictions, they send using effective words. Even though it is suitable for information exchange and comment, 140 letters are not sufficient to express human thought. Representing human ideas with 140 letters is equivalent to simplifying complicated ones. I can not recommend getting used only to that form.

If we simplify complex thinking, for example, even in movies and novels, it will only be felt as "I do it!" "I can cry". Complex things exist as complicated things, and when you touch such things, you do not digest easily, even if you can not find the words inside yourself, leave it in one corner of your head without ignoring it about. Mystery is a mystery. There is much possibility of understanding gradually. To that end, I think that sensitivity is being polished by talking with people, dialogue, reading long sentences, and such accumulation.

G:
Thank you for your precious story today.
