Google, which now provides Gmail for many people , claims that 'reading the contents of Gmail is a natural business act ', but one man falls under 'child pornography' in Gmail When I sent it with an image attached, an incident occurred in which Google discovered this and reported it to related organizations and was arrested.

Gmail spots child porn, resulting in arrest [Updated] | Ars Technica

John Skillarn, who lives in Houston, USA, was arrested for possessing child pornographic images. When Skillarn attached an image of a young girl with a high degree of exposure to Gmail and sent it, Gmail's system detected it. He was arrested for reporting the information to The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children , and the details are reported in the following movie.

A 41-year-old Skillarn suspect was arrested. About 20 years ago, he was arrested for committing a sexual crime against an 8-year-old boy at the time.

Google detected and reported that three pornographic images of a young girl were attached to the email sent by the suspect. When police investigated based on that information, they were arrested because child pornographic images were stored on the terminal owned by the suspect.

The image was not simply 'attached a JPEG image' but was cleverly disguised, according to

Investigator David Nettles of the ICAC Task Force (Internet Crime Special Investigation Team for Children) Houston Branch. We couldn't find the image the way we knew it. I don't know how Google found it. '

Skillarn worked as a kitchen staff member of a local restaurant chain, but he said that his device included a movie of a child eating at the restaurant.

A neighbor said, 'I was a normal person, but I'm glad I was arrested,' he said with surprise and relief.

In this case, the porn detection mechanism that seems to be implemented on Gmail's system worked to prevent child abuse, but there are still pros and cons regarding privacy related to Gmail. Currently, The Guardian has an article entitled 'Death of Privacy' about privacy peeping by Google and Facebook.

There remains a big question as to whether the word 'privacy' should be used for acts of child abuse as in this case, but I have saved photos of my grandchildren bathing in my computer. There was also an event in which an old man was arrested and prosecuted by the police for simple possession of child pornography, and an event in which he was searched for a house for possession of child pornography that he did not remember because he had a friend use Wi-Fi. In the worst case, even in the case related to Gmail this time, even if the mail sent from a highly anonymous mail service such as Leak contains a child pornographic image, it may be arrested and arrested. It cannot be completely ruled out that it causes nothing to happen.

In addition, Leak prohibits sending illegal images and data including pornographic images, and the service is also 'not completely anonymous'.
