A shocking fact is announced that more than half of the perpetrators of child sexual abuse are 'children'

A survey conducted by British police has revealed that the majority of perpetrators of child sexual abuse in England and Wales were minors. It has been pointed out that the spread of smartphones and easier access to violent pornography are behind the increase in the creation of obscene images by children and the increase in rape cases.

The National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), an organization made up of representatives from UK police agencies, and the Vulnerability Knowledge and Practice Programme (VKPP), a project that researches and coordinates police work, are jointly working to identify child abuse cases in 2022. We have released a report (PDF file) summarizing sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) cases.

Below is a movie that excerpts the most important points from the investigation report.

Key findings from National Analysis of Police Recorded CSAE Crimes Report 2022 - YouTube

There were 106,984 CSAE incidents from January to December 2022, an increase of 7.6% from 2021 and almost four times the number 10 years ago.

73% of sexual crimes against children were direct sexual crimes such as rape, and the remaining 27% were online crimes related to indecent images.

79% of child victims were girls, but 21% were boys.

Meanwhile, 82% of perpetrators were male.

Surprisingly, 52% of perpetrators in CSAE incidents were children between the ages of 10 and 17, with the most common child being 14 years old. The three most typical crimes involving children were ``sexual assault,'' ``rape,'' and ``taking and sharing indecent images of children.''

In over 91% of these crimes, the perpetrator and victim knew each other, and the most common perpetrator was an acquaintance (51%). In addition, 'partner and spouse' and 'ex-partner and spouse' accounted for a total of 22%, and 'friend' accounted for 10%.

Thirty-three percent of crimes committed by acquaintances were classified as domestic CSAE incidents. For example, in one case, a 4-year-old child was reported for using a smartphone to take and upload indecent images of his siblings.

Sexual crimes via the Internet are on the rise, with 32% of CSAE incidents occurring online.

Of sexual crimes committed against victims under the age of 10, 33% were committed by parents and 27% by siblings.

Ian Critchley, head of child protection at the NPCC, told the UK's leading general newspaper The Guardian: ``Violent pornography has become so easy to access that it has become perceived as normal.'' I think crime is getting worse because of the lack of accessibility.Smartphones are rapidly becoming popular not only among teenagers but also among children under 10 years old. I think this is an issue that should be discussed by society as a whole.'

Azmina Siddique, policy and impact manager at Children's Trust UK, said: 'Child-on-child sexual abuse has increased significantly, accounting for more than half of all reported incidents. 'This is a worrying issue. Many victims, especially children under the age of 16, are not receiving the support they need. Above all, children need to be recognized and treated as victims.' .
