Interview about "Man of Steel" to coach Zack Snyder affected by "AKIRA"

"300" "Watchmen" and other comic books made into a movie to make it hit, this time, will bring Superman to a new era "man of steelHe was the director ofZach · SniderI interviewed him. Director was profoundly acquainted with Japanese animation etc, and in the making of the work there were many parts influenced by director Otomo Katsuhiro "AKIRA" and told that they are still being influenced now. In addition to the interview, I also posted the appearance of the Japan Premier held at Roppongi Hills Arena.

Q:
The director seems to like "Superman" directed by Richard Donner published in 1978, but is there a scene that I like it especially? And is it also reflected in this work?

Zach · Snyder ("Zack"):
Clark at a young age asks his father Jonathan, "I can touch down so much, why can not I do American football?" Frustration is getting worse. I think that the element of the original "Superman" can be felt here and there even in Man of Steel.

Q:
Are there scenes incorporating scenes devised to date and new photography techniques in this shoot? Also, what kind of things did you incorporate there?

Zach:
I am using "Environment Camera (Enviro-Cam)". This is a visual effect supervisor,Angel WarsD. J. This is a technique used by John de Jardin when I was helped at the time.

For example, there are scenes where characters fight in the fight, get engaged or fly away. Speaking of the scene which comes out in the work, the scene of a battle in Smallville that the character collapsed in front of me fly away from there. At this time, the cameraman will pan the camera work from the place where the character collapsed to the place to fly away. At the same time, I set up a still camera at this camera position and shoot the 360 degree environment around the camera. By doing this it is possible to prepare physical camera work material, so that the VFX staff is able to imitate the camera work naturally when composing it.

Q:
Mr. Christopher Nolan who was in charge of making this work is also a film director. I think there was a difficult part because the directors worked together at work.

Zach:
That was an amazing place in Christopher Nolan, who dealt with me just as I thought "I'd like to be treated like this to a producer if I am a director." "I do not want to see the film made by the Production Committee but I'd like to see a movie made with Zac's vision and I will protect you so that you can do whatever you want to do" He told the studio that "Zach should do what he wants to do!" So that his work can be made.

Q:
The director is a comic original work and has been successful by making "300" "watchmen" so far. However, in Japan too many live-action works of comic original are made, but not all are successful. As a person with a successful experience, please let me know if you carefully consider the points to make comic movies successful.

Zach:
People who are working on works with original works in Japan also think that they are passionate, but it is not easy to visualize. It may be thought that comics and movies are similar, but the format is quite different, and I am struggling with various things to visualize. For example, Katsuhiro Otomo's director"AKIRA" is made into a live-action movieIn the story, I also had a voice call. At that time, when you asked "Do not you have to shoot with Japanese actors in Japan, the stage is in Japan?" And said, "No, I'm thinking I will take a picture in New York," It will not make sense. " After all, there is a place which can not be changed only for the material which is loved. I am considering at least as "faithful to the original", but will points become there?

Q:
While breaking the building in a big city, the battle was impressive and it was something that could not be seen in live-action movies so far, but I felt deja vu, if it is a Japanese, it's a "dragon ball" I think I have seen battle. Although this thing never decreases the quality of the work, did you know "Dragon Ball" and received inspiration?

Zach:
The point that 'Man of Steel' differs from other super hero movies, such as 'Avengers', may be that there are fighting styles that are close to animation in a 1: 1 fighting fight.

About "Dragon Ball" I have seen some episodes. When it comes to work of that scale, the battle is also large and beautiful, do not you? A title does not come out for a moment now but I remembered the work of Japan with the scene where the building will be destroyed by a battle in a big city. So, if it is Japanese animation this scene may come out quite well (it says it is checking what was the work with the handy iPhone) ...... Was it a television or a movie I do not remember, I suppose it was probably a television ....

Q:
It is an illustrator of Japan at the time of "Angel Wars"Katsuya TeradaAlthough he was recruited, what works and creators in Japan are you paying attention now?

Zach:
Katsuya Terada is a genius. It was an honor to be able to work together. Although it is a featured work, when I say Japanese work, I am still being influenced from "AKIRA". This has been true since long ago and I am still receiving it now. I think that the scene where the internal organs of the character gets chipped out is amazing and I am trying to maneuver in my work many times. To AKIRA and Man of the Steel, from a scene where several characters are talking intimately, it spreads to a large scene where a town is suddenly destroyed, and it seems like it will be shown in parallel There are places where similarities are similar, such as places, and there are many parts that are being influenced.

Q:
If you make this amazing movie, is not it hard for the next piece?

Zach:
In making "Man of Steel" I tried hard to pursue the world of DC comics but next time it is decided that Batman will come out as long as it is being announced and it is no doubt to scale up Right. However, I'm still thinking about how to create an action scene under construction.

Q:
I want you to break it up messed up.

Zach:
I also want to do that by all means (laugh)

Shooting with poster of 'Man of Steel' set aside

In the third poster above, the place where Superman fly is drawn, but the first poster emphasizes the S mark of the chest like this

In the second poster I was using a shock visual that Superman was caught

After the interview, Director Zack Snyder took the trouble to phone and looked up the above-mentioned "Japanese work that did not come out of the title". "It's strange that America is at 8 o'clock but no one has a response!"

After that, I took confirmation with my acquaintance's painter artist,Birdy the Mighty (Tetsuro Birdie)"It turned out that it was.

Like the Man of Steel, the main character is coming from the universe to the earth, wearing a suit that closely adheres to a body that can understand the body line, fighting enemies, and in some cases buildings It sometimes destroys ... ... that there is much more in common. However, I did not know until the director saw the OVA version released in 1996 in the United States, or the television series "Tetsuobady: DECODE" that was broadcasted after 2008.

Director Zach Snider, who was talking about the name of "Tiger Arm Birdie" even in the message at Japan Premier, whether Japanese animation fighting by destroying the building here was "Tiger Birdie" was delightful. Is it a birdie live-action movie or ant?

In addition to Snyder coach, Japan Premier attended by Deborah Snider, who made the production, Henry Cavill starring, and Charles Robben produced.

Mr. Kabir had fans raising the yellow voice.
