Henry Cavill playing a new superman

It is a little interesting point that it is an English actor who plays a superhero representing America

GIGAZINE (G):
First of all, I would like to ask about role creation. This time, I heard that the role of Superman was loaded with original comics rather than past movie series.

Henry Cavill (Henry):
That's right. I think that Superman is not a movie but a comic character. There are many fans in the movie `` Superman '' starring Christopher Reeve directed by Richard Donner, but there are not many people who know about the important themes of Superman drawn in comics Is not it. That's why I decided to read and study comics first. If you look at the movie version, it will definitely be influenced by Donner and Mr. Reeve, so I think that this `` Man of Steel '' is the first movie dealing with Superman, I The interpretation of was expanded from comics. I think I was confused when I was referring to a movie or TV superman.

G:
Is there a difference between the original comic Superman and the Superman you played?

Henry:
The original Superman has various viewpoints, viewpoints and interpretations, and different people draw for each episode and series, so there is a difference between each interpretation and my own interpretation. If you make a difference one by one, it will take a whole day (laugh)

G:
I would like to ask you about the training you did during the role creation. Did you receive training guidance from Mark Twight this time, was it painful or was it fun?

Henry:
Both. It was a lot of hard work and very hard, but Mark and another trainer, Mike Brevans, also took care of me to enjoy it. Their work is so wonderful that they love work and work with passion. So I tried to be as passionate as them. It's not possible to “make a magic wand and transform” to make a Superman body, so they make a training menu and a meal program that suits me, and I do it exactly. So there was a fun part and a hard part.

G:
Is there any training that left a special impression?

Henry:
The rowing machine was very tight because I had to breathe a lot. Well, when you remember the worst days ... The pain of training varies considerably depending on how much calories you eat. When you don't get a lot of calories, training can be difficult, but if you eat a lot, you have energy, so you can have fun training. Personally, I don't like training to raise my heart rate very much (laughs), but I worked hard because it was an important training.

My favorite training was squat training the front of my feet and calves, and deadlift using my whole body. I could feel that this training was getting stronger as I did it, and it was good that I could do as much as I wanted.

G:
I would like to ask about acting. The Superman this time was striking, and I felt that it was more human than the previous work. Is there anything you have taken care of or devised to play the troubled Superman?

Henry:
There is no special preparation for acting. I wanted to be as realistic as possible. The struggle that Clark Kent experiences is that everyone is experiencing, even though the situation is different. Clark is lonely because he is an alien, and no one understands his feelings, so it is amplified. But everyone has experienced this loneliness. That's why I tried to amplify the feeling of loneliness I experienced and incorporate it into the performance. In addition, Superman acts with the belief that “I will always do the right thing” regardless of what is said to me, but I also tried to play with this belief.

G:
Are you actually making use of your struggling experience?

Henry:
Well, as a performance technique, there are places where I can remember my experience and match the feelings of the character, so I think that I could use it for the performance by taking out something similar to what Clark experienced from my experience The

G:
This time, the filming is done in quite a variety of locations, but I thought it was particularly difficult to shoot a scene that was hit by a wave on an actual crab fishing boat.

Henry:
I took three days to shoot the crab fishing boat scene. Among them, a 30-foot wave (about 10m) came and felt that “how big the earth is and humans are small”, but it was a lot of fun and a great experience. It was hard to get used to the rough sea, but it was hard, but a fisherman who actually worked on a crab fishing boat helped me, so I was able to take a wonderful scene.

G:
Was n’t it quite dangerous?

Henry:
It was always dangerous (laughs) Anyway, the waves were so high that some people rolled up in response to the waves. When receiving a wave, there is an image that does not roll even if it is pressed sharply, but according to the person who received the wave, it is impossible to stand, it seems to fall down and be washed away to the edge of the deck . I was wearing a life jacket and had all the safety measures, so it wasn't so close to death, but it wasn't 100% safe.

G:
Is there a scene that you want the audience to watch without blinking?

Henry:
Is n’t it blinking? (Laughs) Well, the whole story is a confident work. Everyone who was involved in the movie did a great job. Zack was a genius, everything was great, including screenplay and filming, and the CGI production staff did a great job. The composition of a series of movements in the battle scene is also unquestionable. So there is no scene that can be extracted as 'This is the best'. However, the third chapter in the film, the part that corresponds to the climax, is a scene that I can see so much that I forget to breathe.

G:
“Man of Steel” has the theme of “selection”, but what is the important “selection” in your life made by Mr. Cavill?

Henry:
It's every day (laughs) The interesting part of the choice is that your life will change a lot depending on whether you choose it or not, whether it goes right or left. But he doesn't even realize it. I'm sure you've made the big choice yourself, but you may not be able to talk to others yet.

G:
From now on, when you are walking around the town, your child may say 'There is a superman!'

Henry:
It will be a very new experience in my life. The children will believe that Henry Cavill is a real superman without thinking that he plays the role of superman in the movie. If parents explain that they are fiction, it's a different story, but most parents don't say anything about breaking their children's dreams. That's why I have to deal with it carefully and well. I have to pay homage to the children who believe me as a hero. It's a very fresh thing in my life, but you will get used to it every day.

G:
Is there any pressure for that situation?

Henry:
Of course, I want to receive this positively. I don't think everyone has the chance to become a good influence on children, so I think it's wonderful.

G:
I would like to ask about the costume. How was the Superman suit?

Henry:
Strangely (laughs), Illinois was so hot because it was hot, and Vancouver was so cold even though it was cold. Although it was a suit made to protect the body, it actually didn't protect me ... (laughs)

G:
Is it difficult to shoot and have you re-taken it?

Henry:
Since I was well prepared, I went smoothly and did not need to take another shot. Since the filming period was 6 months, the amount of shooting material was considerable.

G:
I heard that shooting on a crab fishing boat was difficult before, but are there other impressive locations?

Henry:
The scene where helicopters approach and fly away at the summit near Vancouver is impressive. Until then, I had been shooting in the studio for a long time, so I was able to shoot outdoors and at the top of the mountain surrounded by nature.

I took pictures at various locations, so each had different difficulties, but the scene of the oil plant floating in the sea was quite wintery when the shooting time was midwinter, but I was getting wet with taking off my shirt ... But all are wonderful experiences.

G:
How was the shooting at

Edwards Air Force Base ?

Henry:
Oh, that's it! It was really great. The last shot was taken at Edwards Air Force Base, and because it is an active base, you can hear where many fighters are running on the ground and the sonic boom that occurs when breaking the sound wall . It was. The shooting next to the staff working at the base was very good.

G:
So that's it. Thank you for the exciting story.

Since the days have passed since shooting, the muscle seems to have fallen compared to when playing Superman, but the body that still feels 'Superman' is definitely in front of you.
