'Expert Intelligence' has been released, allowing you to have Gemini read your purchased ebooks and ask questions about them, supporting over 100,000 titles.



Google has announced a new feature for its

Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM), a tool that uses AI to analyze and organize documents, audio, and video. This new feature, called ' Expert Intelligence ,' allows users to import purchased books and ask questions or engage in discussions with them.

Gemini Notebook is a rebranded version of ' NotebookLM ,' an AI tool that allows AI to generate answers and content using only the documents it is fed into the system. Along with the rebranding, the 'advanced analysis features involving code execution,' previously only available to users of the top-tier paid Google AI Ultra plan, were added and expanded to all Pro users.

Google has reportedly spent several months in discussions with authors and publishers, working to gain a deeper understanding of how AI can help maximize people's reading experience. One of the insights they gained is that 'readers reread their favorite books repeatedly and continue to apply the author's teachings to their own lives,' Google says.

Therefore, 'Expert Intelligence' was developed as a feature that allows you to learn more about books. With Expert Intelligence, you can add specific ebooks purchased from Google Play Books directly to your Gemini Notebook and receive answers based on those books. It also helps you understand books in new ways by generating infographics, audio summaries, and quizzes from your Gemini Notebook.



Google suggests the following use cases for Expert Intelligence:

- We will use Gemini Notebook to brainstorm the best methods for giving feedback to employees and strategies for facilitating difficult conversations, drawing inspiration from business books.
By uploading your personal diary to Gemini Notebook and overlaying it with books on diet and nutrition also uploaded to Gemini Notebook, you can gain a deeper understanding of how to apply health management knowledge and ideas to your own life.
- Ask for help creating a healthy family meal plan for a week by taking photos of the contents of the refrigerator and uploading them to Gemini Notebook along with cookbooks.

Expert Intelligence collaborates with leading publishers such as

Penguin Random House , the world's largest publisher, and Johns Hopkins University Press , America's longest-running university press, to include over 100,000 books. It also partners with more than 15 bestselling authors to create 'Featured Notebooks' containing additional and engaging materials to help readers gain a deeper understanding of their works.



The control features were also developed in collaboration with authors and publishers, and access to the book's content in Gemini Notebook is restricted to those who own the book through Google Play Books. Gemini Notebook can also be shared with others, but to delve deeper into additional information, the recipient will also need to purchase the book.

Google stated, 'We're starting with books in Gemini Notebook, but in the future we plan to increase opportunities to use Expert Intelligence-powered content in Gemini apps and AI mode in search. Soon we'll be able to add more sources of information, such as third-party subscription services, business research reports, and textbooks.'
