This note-taking app, 'NotebookLM,' was announced under the name 'Project Tailwind' at the event 'Google I/O 2023' held in May 2023. It is based on the Pro model of Gemini, Google's multimodal AI, and the large-scale language model, PalM 2.

NotebookLM lets you upload documents or copy and paste content, and instantly analyzes and displays options that might be appropriate for you. You can also ask the built-in virtual assistant to complete tasks or ask questions to get answers.

In July 2023, Google tested NotebookLM with a select group of users. Google reported that some users, such as a medical student who uploaded a scientific

paper on neuroscience and asked NotebookLM to create a glossary of keywords related to dopamine, or a biography author who uploaded research notes and asked NotebookLM to summarize all of Houdini and Conan Doyle 's interactions, were using the app to organize ideas. Other examples include uploading multiple video ideas and asking NotebookLM to generate a short video script, and entrepreneurs asking the AI to generate questions for potential investors.

Google says it is developing NotebookLM with two goals in mind: 'Building products together with users' and 'Deploying AI technology responsibly.'
