Once integrated, Ford's UEVs will have Apple Maps-based navigation capabilities on their in-car displays, making it easy to find the best route to your destination.
Furthermore, road-level map information will enable Latitude AI, Ford's driver assistance system development company, to create a smoother, hands-free driving experience.
The UEV platform is the foundation for Ford's next generation of mid-size electric vehicles, and sedans, SUVs, and small commercial vans will all be designed based on this UEV platform.
Eddy Cue, Apple's Vice President of Services & Health, said, 'We are thrilled to bring Apple Maps and its navigation technology, which delivers the world's best map experience, to Ford's innovative UEV platform. With the new MapKit for Automotive SDK, we are further integrating Apple Maps into the daily lives of drivers, providing incredibly accurate and easy-to-use navigation that is seamlessly integrated into Ford vehicles.'
Ford Motor CEO Jim Farley stated, 'Our new mid-size EV is expected to be priced at around $30,000 (approximately 4.9 million yen), redefining the possibilities of advanced technology. It will be simple, practical, and realistically affordable for many customers.' He added, 'We are honored to be among the first to integrate Apple Maps, a world-class product, and contribute to establishing an intuitive and high-performance driving experience.'
'MapKit for Automotive SDK' is an SDK that allows automakers to directly integrate and customize Apple Maps, and can be used according to their own interface and design language. In terms of privacy, it adheres to Apple's standard specifications, and no location information or activity data that could be linked to individual users is recorded.
According to TechCrunch, companies that deploy multiple Ford mid-size vehicles can use 'MapKit for Automotive SDK' to guide drivers to their next work area and display the locations of other vehicles on a map, making it easier to manage their fleet.
