Under the terms of the agreement, Anthropic will purchase up to 2 GW of AMD's latest generation chip, the 'Instinct MI450,' starting in the first half of 2027. 1 GW is considered sufficient to power approximately 750,000 households in the United States on a continuous basis. Through this agreement, AMD will invest up to $5 billion (approximately 820 billion yen) in Anthropic.
AMD will offer Helios rackscale solutions featuring the Instinct MI455X GPU from the Instinct MI450 series, along with Venice CPUs and Pensando networking. Furthermore, AMD and Anthropic have established a technical collaboration to accelerate AMD's software development using Claude, with both teams developing AMD's ROCm software. In the future, AMD plans to utilize Anthropic's Claude model across its entire development team.
AMD stated, 'The proliferation of AI is progressing at an astonishing pace, and the demand for training and inference capabilities is rapidly increasing. The fact that Anthropic is adopting AMD products on a gigawatt-per-unit basis as it expands its infrastructure to meet Claude's demands significantly expands AMD's position in building global AI infrastructure.'
