A plump, round raccoon named 'Jimothy' has become popular online, and a special animation now plays when you search for him on Google.



Jimothy the raccoon, discovered in Seattle on July 13, 2026, went viral on Instagram, racking up millions of views. Since then, a dedicated subreddit, '

r/JimothyRaccoon ,' has been created on Reddit, and the latest information, fan art, and memes about Jimothy have become incredibly popular. Furthermore, a Google search for Jimothy will bring up animations depicting him.

The following is a video posted on Instagram by Kiana Hall in the Ballard district of Seattle. Hall initially thought there was a cat under the car and took out her smartphone to get a better look. However, upon closer inspection, she saw that while the face was that of a raccoon, its body shape was a stocky, unfamiliar one. Hall named the raccoon 'Jimothy,' and says the name came about 'intuitively.'




Hall's video was viewed more than 5 million times in just a few hours, the term 'Jimothy' became established, and people in the Ballard district began sharing information about Jimothy sightings. Below is a picture of Jimothy appearing behind a house.

According to Marcy Logsdon, associate professor at Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, while a precise diagnosis cannot be made from video alone, Jimothy's extremely short neck may be due to a congenital spinal malformation. Another report suggests that it could be 'shortened spine syndrome,' which could be causing spinal compression. However, Logsdon said, 'The fact that Jimothy has lived to this age is proof that he has coped and adapted well. I was surprised by how energetic he is, and to be honest, I was a little impressed.'

Jimothy has become popular not only because of reports of his discovery, but also as an internet meme and fan art. He has become an idol in Seattle, and a mascot costume of Jimothy appeared in the 'Salmon Run,' a mascot race held at the bottom of the 5th inning at the Seattle Mariners' home games in MLB, and the scene of him beating four salmon to win also became a hot topic.




Furthermore, a dedicated UI has been implemented for searching for Jimothy in Google Search. Simply type 'Jimothy' into the search bar and search.
