In recent years, advancements in generative AI have made it possible for anyone to easily generate very high-quality music using AI. However, at the same time, the fact that a large number of AI-generated songs are being distributed on music streaming services has become a cause for concern.
According to a 2025 survey conducted by Deezer in eight countries—Japan, the United States, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and Germany—45% of respondents wanted to remove AI-generated music from platforms, and 40% stated they would skip any 100% AI-generated music they encountered. This indicates a certain level of aversion to AI-generated music. Furthermore, 80% believe that AI-generated music needs a label to clearly indicate its AI origin, and only 11% believe that AI-generated music should be treated the same as human-made music on major charts. More than 70% also believe that AI-generated music threatens the livelihoods of human artists and that it is unethical for AI companies to use copyrighted material to generate music.

As of April 2026, it was found that approximately 75,000 AI-generated songs were uploaded to Deezer every day, accounting for about 44% of the total daily uploads. Deezer has taken measures to detect and tag AI-generated music, preventing it from appearing in the 'Recommended' section. As a result, the amount of time AI-generated music spends playing is kept to around 1% to 3% of the user's total listening time.

On June 11, 2026, Deezer released a free AI-generated music detection tool that supports 27 languages. This allows users to check whether playlists they have created on 20 different music streaming services, including YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music, contain AI-generated music.
After trying out Deezer's AI-generated music detection tool, it appears to work by using a service called Tune my music , which automates the transfer of playlists between music streaming services, to import the playlists into Deezer for scanning. Therefore, a Deezer account is required to use the tool.

Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said, 'For the past year and a half, Deezer has been a pioneer in ensuring transparency in music streaming by detecting and tagging AI-generated music. As no one else has yet followed suit, we have made it possible for everyone, regardless of which streaming platform they use, to see if their playlists contain AI-generated music.'
