AI demand explodes, but computing power becomes a constraint; OpenAI, which had made massive investments, is aiming for a comeback - GIGAZINE

According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI had set a goal of increasing its weekly active accounts to 1 billion by the end of 2025, but due to slowing growth, it failed to meet this target. It also reportedly 'failed to reach multiple revenue targets.'
Therefore, CFO Sarah Friar has reportedly expressed concern to other executives that if sales do not grow sufficiently, the company may not be able to secure funding to secure computing power in the future. OpenAI is proceeding with plans to build a massive data center in partnership with Oracle, SoftBank, and others, but if growth falls short of expectations, it could affect the progress of these plans.

According to the business newspaper Bloomberg, OpenAI responded to the report by saying that 'the atmosphere within the company is incredibly positive,' and dismissed the WSJ article as 'a typical clickbait.'
Reuters also received an email from CEO Sam Altman and CFO Friar, who commented, 'It's ridiculous. We are in complete agreement that we will secure as much computing power as possible and work together as a team every day.'
Bloomberg, which also covered OpenAI's counterarguments, pointed out that OpenAI has recently become cautious about infrastructure investment, and that its AI infrastructure construction project 'Stargate' has been temporarily suspended in the UK.
