With so many email clients available, including Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird, and Becky!, which one do GIGAZINE readers actually use? We conducted a survey to find out.

GIGAZINE holds
First, here are the responses to the question, 'What email client do you use on your PC?'

The breakdown was as follows:
1st place: Gmail (browser): 45.847%
2nd place: Yahoo! Mail (browser): 16.102%
3rd place: Outlook (browser): 12.340%
4th place: Thunderbird: 9.510%
5th place: Outlook for Windows: 7.014%
6th place: Others: 3.240%
7th place: Becky! Internet Mail: 1.577%
8th place: Hidemaru Mail: 0.484%
Browser-based email services dominate the top rankings, with Gmail (browser-based) leading the pack at 45.847%. Yahoo! Mail (browser-based) and Outlook (browser-based) each accounted for over 10%, suggesting that a significant number of PC users prefer using browsers to manage their email rather than dedicated software.
On the other hand, Thunderbird and Outlook for Windows both maintain a significant presence with 9.510% and 7.014% usage rates, respectively. This suggests that many readers continue to use dedicated clients on their PCs, prioritizing features such as managing multiple accounts, local storage, and ease of detailed configuration.
The following is

Since this includes standard email software, clients for specific environments, and tools tailored to unique operational needs, it's clear that some readers choose their email client based on their specific environment.
Next, here are the results of the response to the question, 'What email client do you use on your smartphone (iOS/Android)?'

The breakdown was as follows:
1st place: Gmail (app): 45.86%
2nd place: Mail (default iOS app): 18.72%
3rd place: Yahoo! Mail (app): 10.90%
4th place: Microsoft Outlook (app): 7.37%
5th place: Gmail (browser): 5.37%
6th place: Yahoo! Mail (browser): 4.08%
7th place: Other: 3.67%
8th place: Outlook.com (browser): 1.69%
Gmail services are also strong on smartphones, with the Gmail app taking the top spot at 45.86%. However, unlike on PCs, the second-place app was Mail (the default iOS app). It seems that a certain number of people continue to use the apps that come pre-installed on their smartphones due to the ease of adding accounts and familiarity with the OS.
Furthermore, Yahoo! Mail (app) and Microsoft Outlook (app) ranked highly, while Gmail (browser) and Yahoo! Mail (browser) ranked lower than their app versions. This is perhaps an expected result, as apps are generally easier to use than browsers on smartphones.
The following is a word cloud summarizing the responses of those who answered 'Other' to the previous question.

Although a small number, responses were divided among several apps and usage methods, indicating that a certain number of readers use apps other than standard apps or official apps from major services.
The overall trend was as expected: the browser version was stronger on PCs, while the app version was stronger on smartphones. It seems that many users choose the most suitable version for their device, even for the same Gmail or Yahoo! Mail, using the browser on their PC and the app on their smartphone.
