We surveyed GIGAZINE readers about their gaming habits, asking questions like, 'How many hours a day do you play games?', 'What games do you own?', and 'What categories of games do you like?'

GIGAZINE publishes a wide variety of

game-related articles , as well as numerous game reviews . We conducted a survey three times a year to find out what kinds of games GIGAZINE readers usually play and how much time they spend playing games each day.

First, to find out the percentage of GIGAZINE readers who are gamers, we asked the question, 'Do you usually play games?' The results are as follows: 67.4% of the total respondents were gamers.

The graph below summarizes the results of a survey asking readers about their average daily game play time. While the survey allowed readers who answered 'I don't play games' to participate, resulting in the most frequent answer being '0 hours,' the average daily game play time for GIGAZINE readers is ' 1 hour and 40 minutes .' Excluding those who answered '0 hours,' the average daily game play time was ' 2 hours .'

Next, we asked what game consoles (excluding PCs) they own, and the results are as follows. This question also allowed readers who answered 'I don't play games' to answer, so the second most common answer was 'I don't own a game console' (33.5%). However, even more readers answered that they own

a Nintendo Switch , with an astonishing ownership rate of 42.9% among GIGAZINE readers. Other game consoles with high ownership rates among GIGAZINE readers were PlayStation 4 (22.1%), Nintendo Switch 2 (21.1%), PlayStation 5 (15.5%), and PlayStation 3 (14.4%).

Furthermore, the results of a survey on desired game consoles are as follows: The most common answer was 'None in particular' (37.6%), followed by 'Nintendo Switch 2' (33.3%). Notably, portable gaming PCs such as Steam Deck (14.7%) and ROG Ally (7.9%) also ranked highly.

The following are the results of a survey asking respondents to select the tags that apply to the games they frequently play from the top 100

most frequently used game tags on Steam . Approximately half of the respondents (48%) answered that they 'do not play games on Steam,' and the most popular tags were 'Action' (19.2%), 'RPG' (19%), 'Simulation' (15%), 'Indie' (11.4%), and 'Adventure' (10.5%).
