A survey result shows that YouTube is being eroded by low-quality AI-generated videos, with 63 billion views and over 221 million subscribers.
A huge number of videos are posted to YouTube every day, but content that boosts views and subscribers by uploading large quantities of low-quality videos created using generative AI is becoming more prominent.

In creating this report, Kapwing defined AI-generated videos, which are created using automated tools and distributed in large quantities to gain views and subscribers or for political purposes, as ' AI slop. ' They further defined low-quality videos containing AI slop as meaningless and compulsively watched videos as ' brain rot .' Brain rot is said to cause a sense of mental and cognitive decay while watching, and in many cases, the videos are AI-generated.
Kapwing first used PLAYBOARD , a web service that allows users to view and analyze YouTube Super Chat rankings, to manually extract the top 100 trending channels in each country. Next, they obtained data from SOCIAL BLADE , a social media statistics site, on the number of views, subscribers, and estimated annual revenue, and compiled the data by country.
As a result, Spain had the most AI slop channels in the top 100, with 20.22 million subscribers . While Spain only had eight AI slop channels in the top 100, which is not as many as other top countries, the number of channels with large numbers of subscribers is driving up the total.
Meanwhile, South Korea had the highest total number of views for AI slop channels in the top 100 trending charts, reaching 8.45 billion views. This is about 1.6 times the number of views of second-place Pakistan (5.34 billion views) and about 2.5 times the number of views of third-place America (3.39 billion views).
Kapwing also compiled the top 10 'Most Viewed AI Slop Channels in the World.'

The results of Kapwing's investigation have been reported in various newspapers. The Guardian, a major British newspaper, wrote that of the AI slop channels found in Kapwing's investigation, '278 channels alone have generated more than 63 billion views and 221 million subscribers.' A YouTube spokesperson commented, 'We are committed to connecting people to high-quality content, regardless of how it is created.' 'Posts must comply with our Community Guidelines. We will remove any content that violates our policies.'
Technology media outlet WinBuzzer points out that Google removed related videos on December 10, 2025, following a request from Disney to cease and desist , and on December 19 , permanently banned the channels 'Screen Culture' and 'KH Studio,' known for posting fake trailers. The website claims that 'while Google takes strong action when major rights holders like Disney take action, it tends to ignore slop that does not infringe on rights.'
Kapwing points out that AI slop and brainrot are designed to steal people's attention, even if they appear to be harmless entertainment. 'The resulting noise of content makes it easier to bury clues to understanding the world, and increases our reliance on algorithmic filtering,' it says.
