According to the recall report of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall was filed on March 18, 2025. The recall applies to all Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023 and February 27, 2025, totaling 46,096 units. The proportion of defective units is estimated to be about 1%, or about 460 units.
Tesla said the stainless steel panels on the Cantrail could peel away from adhesive joints and become detached from the vehicle.
Tesla has announced that it will replace the Cantrails in recalled vehicles with ones that meet durability test requirements free of charge. The replacement will take about an hour. Tesla has reported that there have been no accidents or injuries caused by the defect so far.
The Cybertruck is also known for having frequent defects, and in October 2024 it was recalled for the fifth time due to a defect in the rearview camera screen.
