I tried out 'TranslateManga,' an AI service that allows you to easily translate manga and illustration pages by simply uploading them to your browser.

An AI service called ' TranslateManga ' has been released that translates manga or illustration pages into other languages in your browser while maintaining the image format, so I decided to give it a try.

'TranslateManga' is a web service that uses AI to translate your favorite manga or illustration pages into other languages when you upload them. Its unique feature is that it translates while preserving the pictures and speech bubbles of the original manga or illustration.

To use it, you need to create an account. First, go to the official 'TranslateManga' website and click 'Sign in' in the upper right corner.

A login form will be displayed. If you do not have an account, click 'Sign up' at the bottom.

Enter your email address and password and click 'Continue'.

A login passcode will be sent to the email address you entered, so enter it and click 'Continue'.

Your account is now created and you are logged in.

To upload an image, click the '+' icon that says 'Upload Image or Drag and Drop Here.'

Select the image file you want to translate and click 'Open'. This time, I used one frame from the manga '

Ame Ame Fure Fure Usoyande ' which was officially serialized on GIGAZINE. The maximum image file that can be uploaded is 5MB, and the file format is jpg, png, and webp.

Once the upload is complete it will look like this.

Select the language you want to translate from the form in the upper left of the upload section. At the time of writing, the following languages are available: English, Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, French, German, Italian, and Russian. I chose English this time.

Click 'Translate All'.

The translation was completed in about 30 seconds. You can check the translated image by clicking on the image, and download the image by clicking on the download icon in the bottom right.

Looking at the translated image, the speech bubbles were indeed preserved while the lines were translated, but there was some awkwardness in the translation of lines that spanned two speech bubbles, and lines that consisted of only one character, such as 'Huh?', were not translated, so the accuracy was not as high as that of human translations. Also, onomatopoeia and other sounds outside the speech bubbles were not translated.

When I tried it on a single frame of the manga '

Himitsu no Miyazono ' that was serialized on GIGAZINE's website, only the onomatopoeia 'key' of 'Keen Corn' was translated as 'Key', but it was difficult to judge whether the color and font were close to the original. Also, when the background of the character was transparent, there were some parts where the background of the character was unnaturally filled in, so it was not necessarily a perfect translation.

The free version of 'TranslateManga' allows you to translate up to 20 times a week, and the standard plan, which costs $8 (about 1,200 yen) per month, allows you to translate up to 1,200 times a month.
