It turns out that if you insult Google's AI with 'Fucking AI,' the AI summary will no longer appear in the search results

The 'AI summary' that summarizes the results of Google searches by AI is useful, but some people may think that it is better not to have it because it can produce

strange summaries . In such a case, if you enter the swear word 'fucking' as a search term, the AI will no longer output a summary, according to IT news site Ars Technica.

Since around late January 2025, a technique has become popular on social media of inserting 'curse words' into search terms as a way to avoid AI-generated summaries of Google searches.

Ars Technica tested the curse word technique and found the following results: By adding 'fucking,' the AI summary was hidden, and the search results were displayed directly below the search field.

Although 'any negative adjective + how to turn off Google's AI search results' had some effect, 'dumb' and 'lousy' had no effect. On the other hand, 'fucking' had an effect no matter where it was inserted randomly.

It's been known for some time that Google's AI, Gemini,

tends to avoid swear words wherever possible, and Ars Technica speculates that this may help it avoid being summarised.

There are a few ways to get rid of the AI summary without leaving a nasty message in your search history. One of them is to add &udm=14 to your search URL, which will not only hide the AI summary but also the snippet.

Some people also say that adding the search term '-ai' will turn off the AI summary, but in Ars Technica's testing, this didn't work and the AI summary was displayed.

Ars Technica said, 'You don't necessarily need to curse Google's search box to get rid of an intrusive AI, but this method may be useful as a cathartic way to get rid of features that misunderstand why users use Google search. More than that, the social spread of the new 'how to curse AI' indicates that many Google users are annoyed or outraged by this feature that produces dangerous or completely wrong results.'
