Since 2009, Google has been displaying green 'breadcrumbs' at the bottom of each search result, showing the exact location on a website. According to Google, these breadcrumbs provide a variety of useful information, such as the category to which the page belongs.
However, Google has announced that it will no longer display breadcrumbs in mobile Google Search on January 23, 2025. This change will be implemented in all languages and regions.
Regarding the removal of breadcrumbs, Google said, 'We initially introduced breadcrumbs as part of our Site Hierarchy feature, but we found that breadcrumbs were not very useful for users searching on mobile devices because they were cut off on smaller screens. Mobile searchers will soon see a cleaner, more streamlined look for URLs in search results.'
With this update, the breadcrumb list that accompanies the URL displayed in mobile searches will no longer be displayed, as shown below.
Breadcrumbs will continue to be displayed in Google Search on desktop. Additionally, reports on breadcrumbs will continue to be displayed in Google Search Console , and you can still implement and test structured markup for breadcrumbs in the Rich Results Test.
Foreign media Search Engine Land said, 'This change to the Google Search user interface may change your site's click-through rates and traffic. The impact of this change is likely to be minimal, but it's worth tracking.'
