'Flashes' is a photo sharing app for Bluesky that uses the AT protocol . Vogelsang, who is working on its development, worked on the client app 'Skeets' in the early stages of Bluesky.
Although Bluesky has an official client, Vogelsang differentiates Skeets by including accessibility features for the visually impaired and catering to the needs of iPad users.
After that, Vogelsang saw the potential in apps for users who are interested in visual elements at Bluesky, and started developing Flashes at the end of 2024. Since Bluesky supported images and videos from the beginning, even though it was called 'app development,' it was just a matter of basing it on Skeets and making it look like Instagram.

However, it is not a clone of Instagram and has some different features.
Flashes supports posting up to 4 images and videos up to 1 minute long. Images and videos posted on Flashes are also displayed on Bluesky, and comments added to posts are fed back to the app just like the Bluesky client. Bluesky direct messages are also available.

To achieve this, Flashes is simply filtering Bluesky's existing timeline to display images and videos. In the future, he said, Flashes plans to add metadata to posts so that the official Bluesky app feed can handle situations where it becomes overloaded with photos.
Vogelsang also plans to release a video-only app called 'Blue Screen' in the coming weeks.
