We've added a “Priority notifications filter.” When you turn it on, it reduces notifications from people you don't follow.
Here's how it works:
• Replies, mentions, and quoteposts: followed users only
• Likes, reposts, and follows: everybody
◆ Function to reduce the amount of notifications
Bluesky will send you notifications when events occur, such as 'a post is liked,' 'a post is reposted,' 'someone follows you,' 'a reply is received to a post,' etc. By enabling the newly added notification restriction function, you can limit notifications of replies and quote posts from users you do not follow.
The setup procedure for the mobile version of Bluesky is as follows. First, tap the notification button at the bottom of the screen.
When the notification screen appears, tap the settings button in the top right corner of the screen.
Tap the toggle button to the right of 'Enable priority notifications.'
When 'Preferences saved' is displayed and the toggle button turns blue, the settings are complete. At the time of article creation, if you enable this setting, 'notifications of replies, mentions, and quoted posts will be limited to users you follow, and notifications of likes, reposts, and new follows will be received from everyone.' Detailed notification customization features are planned to be provided in the future.
◆ Reduction of communication capacity
In Bluesky, when loading 'user icons' in the timeline, 'large images of several MB' were loaded instead of 'small images displayed on the screen.' Version 1.89 now includes a new function to load small images.
Previously, more than 4MB of data was required to load a timeline, but the update has reduced this to less than 160KB.
Oh this shipped today BTW so if you want to reduce data usage on your phone, update your Bluesky app to the latest version (1.89)

Loading my timeline now only loads ~160KB of profile pics instead of like 4MB+ per page.
Should also make the app use less storage on your phone for image caches.
