As a result of the presidential election on November 6th, it is certain that Trump will be nominated as the next president of the United States with more than 270 electoral votes. Supporting Trump's election campaign is Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, and owner of X (formerly Twitter).

Musk has expressed his full support for Trump following the shooting of Trump in July. He is also known to have donated to America PAC, a political fundraising organization that provides funding to Republican candidates, and it has been reported that Musk has donated a total of $118.55 million (about 18 billion yen) to America PAC.

Musk also reactivated Trump's X (Twitter at the time of the suspension) account, which had been frozen following the 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol , and in August 2024, he had a conversation with Musk on X.

According to the financial newspaper Financial Times, Musk posted on X an average of 100 times a day in the month leading up to the presidential election, and posted nearly 200 times in 24 hours on November 5th. The Financial Times said, 'In the months leading up to the vote, Musk used his megaphone, 'X,' as the owner and most popular account with more than 200 million followers. He flooded the platform with pro-Trump messages, allegations of election fraud, and warnings that a Kamala Harris presidency would destroy America.'

In his victory speech, Trump praised Musk for his continued support of his election campaign. You can see the scene where Trump mentions Musk from around 11:47 in the video below.

'A new star has been born. His name is Elon. He's a fantastic guy. He was with us today,' Trump said. 'He's a brilliant genius. We've got to protect geniuses.'

Musk's action of fully supporting Trump was a kind of gamble, but he won the gamble when Trump won. Musk revealed in a post on X that he had spent time with Trump during the presidential election vote count.

After news broke that Trump had won the election, he excitedly posted, 'It is morning in America again.'

Trump's election is expected to benefit Musk's business. Trump's policies include abolishing subsidies for electric vehicles (EVs) and withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, an international agreement on global warming countermeasures, which at first glance seem to be detrimental to Tesla, which develops EVs. However, since Tesla already holds a large share of the EV industry, these policies are likely to hurt competitors rather than Tesla.

'Tesla has unmatched scale and scope in the EV industry, and this dynamic could give Musk and Tesla a distinct competitive advantage in a subsidy-free environment,' said Daniel Ives, an analyst at financial services firm Wedbush .

Trump has also pledged to establish a Government Efficiency Commission to audit the finances and performance of the entire federal government, with Musk expected to be its head.

Musk also posted a collage of himself carrying a sink into the Oval Office on X, suggesting that he would be in charge of the Government Efficiency Commission. 'Let that sink in' is a phrase that means 'let's think carefully about what it means,' but there is an image of a sink standing outside the door as an internet meme. When Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, he also entered the headquarters with a sink, in imitation of this meme.

During a live broadcast watching the presidential election vote count, Musk said at the Government Efficiency Commission that he wanted to cut 'the massive federal bureaucracy that's holding America back. We're going to do a comprehensive review of all government agencies,' he said. 'When you have multiple agencies that actually have overlapping portfolios, there's a lot of overlapping responsibilities. We have a lot of people that work for the government, but we need to move them into more productive roles in the private sector,' he said, suggesting he is considering cutting government employees.

'We still want regulation, but only when necessary,' Musk said. 'I liken regulation to a referee on the field. You can't have no referees, but you can't have more referees than players.'
