A quick photo review of the open-ear AirPods 4 with active noise canceling

On September 20, 2024, Apple's wireless earphones ' AirPods 4 ' were released. I was able to get them on the release date, so I first opened them and checked the appearance of the main unit. There are two models of 'AirPods 4': one with active noise canceling and one without, and this time I got the model with active noise canceling.

This is the 'AirPods 4' package.

The contents were an earphone case and instructions. No cables were included.

The charging port on the case is USB Type-C.

When you open the case, the indicator in the center lights up.

AirPods 4 were stored inside.

The size is 30.2mm high x 18.3mm wide x 18.1mm thick, and the weight is 4.3g.

With the case included, the actual weight is 43g.

The case alone measures 46.2mm in height, 50.1mm in width, and 21.2mm in thickness, and weighs 34.7g.

The part that touches your ear when you wear it looks like this. The black hole on the bottom left is the speaker, the dot in the middle is the sensor, and the hole on the top right is for letting air out.

There is also a vent on the back.

The tip of the stem is the charging terminal.

The stem is gently recessed, and contains a control sensor that you can place your finger over to control things like play/pause music and answer calls.

This is what it looks like when you put it on.

The main difference between the 'AirPods' (left) and 'AirPods Pro' (right) is whether or not they have ear pieces. With ear pieces, you can seal your ears deep inside, reducing sound leakage and making it easier to hear, but open-ear models are preferred by people who dislike the tight fit of ear pieces. The 'AirPods 4' are open-ear models that also feature active noise canceling. We will look into the active noise canceling feature in a later article.
