According to a Reddit user who took his bricked iPad Pro to an Apple Store, 'I had Apple Care, but they told me I needed to send it in to an engineer before they could give me a replacement.'

GIGAZINE's editorial department's M4-equipped iPad Pro (13 inches) had iPadOS 18.0 Public Beta 3 (22A5307i) installed, and since it had not been updated to the official version at the time of writing, we tried to check the software update. Normally, a message saying 'iPadOS is up to date' or a screen prompting you to update to the latest version that can be updated is displayed, but the message 'Checking for update ...' continued to be displayed.

'We are temporarily pausing iPadOS 18 updates for M4-enabled iPad Pros to resolve an issue affecting a small number of devices,' Apple said in a statement to MacRumors.

Regarding the cause of the problem, security-related news site Bleeping Computer predicts that 'a failure occurred in iBoot, which authenticates when an Apple device starts up, and the boot sector or system files may have been corrupted.'
