NHK has released the ' 2024 Prefectural Land Price Survey Map, ' a map that summarizes land price changes across Japan. It's a very interesting map that shows things like 'land prices are rising in tourist destinations' and 'land prices are falling in areas where disasters have occurred.'

The 2024 Prefectural Land Price Survey Map summarizes the results of the prefectural land price survey in 2024 (Reiwa 6), and allows you to check land prices across Japan as of July 1, 2024, as well as price trends since 2014.

This is the 2024 Prefectural Land Price Survey Map. Red, pink, white, light blue, blue, and yellow dots are plotted on the map, showing the rate of change in land prices compared to the previous year. Each color indicates 'Red: Increase of 2.0% or more', 'Pink: Increase of 0.1% or more', 'White: No change', 'Light blue: Decrease of 0.1% or more', 'Blue: Decrease of 2.0% or more', and 'Yellow: No survey in the previous year'.



A quick look at the map shows that land prices are rising in urban areas such as Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Kanazawa.



If you zoom in on the map, a small graph of land price trends will be displayed. Click on a point to see the trends in detail.



You can then see the price trends from 2014 to 2024, the current price, and the rate of change compared to the previous year, as shown below. In the case of Ariake 1-106-3, Koto-ku, the current market price was 870,000 yen per square meter, a 13% increase from the previous year.



Looking at the area around Niseko Town, which has been gaining

attention due to the increase in foreign tourists, we can see that land prices are rising.



The land price at 129-2 Fujimi, Niseko Town, Abuta District, was 18,000 yen per square meter, up 12.5% from the previous year.



The land price for 65-132 Kabayama, Kutchan-cho, Abuta-gun, near Niseko Town, is 120,000 yen per square meter, more than six times higher than in 2015.



The Noto Peninsula, where the earthquake occurred on January 1, 2024, is marked by prominent blue dots indicating falling land prices.



The land price for 90-56 outside Kawai-cho Ichigobe, Wajima City is 25,400 yen per square meter. Land prices have been declining since 2014, but the decline in 2024 is larger than in previous years.



If you click on 'Compare 2023 (2 screens)' in the menu on the left side of the screen, you can display the 'Change rate between 2024 and 2023' on the left and the 'Change rate between 2023 and 2022' on the right.



If we look at the Noto Peninsula, we can see that land prices have been falling since 2023, before the earthquake occurred.
