I ate an ostrich meat bowl at Yoshinoya.
' Ostrich bowl (with soup) ' using ostrich meat will be sold at some Yoshinoya stores from Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The ostrich bowl is said to be topped with plenty of ostrich thigh meat and fillet meat. I was very curious about what it would taste like, so I went to Yoshinoya to try it.

The Ostrich Bowl (with soup) is sold exclusively at about 400 Yoshinoya stores. This time, I drove to the nearest store using a map that lists stores that sell the product .
The ostrich bowl was on display at the entrance of the store.
The ostrich rice bowl (with soup) looks like this. It came with a raw egg and soup.
The ostrich bowl comes with roasted ostrich meat on top of rice, topped with mountain wasabi soy sauce, sour cream white sauce, and salad.
Finished.
When I tried the ostrich meat with the mountain wasabi soy sauce sauce, it tasted more like beef than chicken, and I didn't notice any bad smell or peculiar taste at all. It looked similar to roast beef, and the taste and texture were also very similar to roast beef. However, while roast beef has a strong beefy aroma, ostrich meat had a weaker aroma, and the aroma of the meat was hidden by the aroma of wasabi and soy sauce.
The ostrich meat was very tender and had no tendons. When eaten with rice, the rice and meat came together and were a perfect match.
One thing that caught my attention was the large amount of red dripping on the rice.
When eaten with sour cream white sauce and salad, the sourness of the sauce and the crunchy texture of the salad make it taste quite refreshing. Before eating it, I imagined, 'Is ostrich meat a strong habit?', but when I actually ate it, the taste of the meat itself was 'refined beef lean meat with no odor' and had no habit or odor at all.
What made even more of an impact than the ostrich bowl itself was the soup served on the side.
This is ostrich soup. There was a thin film on the surface.
The taste was like a 'super rich version of chicken broth soup', and the rich chicken-like flavor hit my tongue. The meat tasted more like beef than chicken, but the soup tasted like chicken stock. I was thinking 'Ostrich meat is similar to beef', but then the rich chicken flavor came, and my brain was confused, thinking 'What is ostrich after all!?'
The ostrich bowl (with soup) costs 1,530 yen (excluding tax) and will be sold at approximately 400 Yoshinoya stores from Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The total number of units sold is approximately 60,000, so if you're interested, please refer to the map to see the list of stores that sell the dish and go to try it.
