X/old Twitter is changing the water gun emoji back to a real gun-like design

Old Twitter followed the lead of Google, Facebook and others and changed its gun emoji to a water pistol design in 2018.

From 2013 to 2018, the changes in gun emoji designs on Apple, Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Facebook, and Twitter are as follows.
The Unicode Consortium, which develops emojis, has followed the platform's lead and officially selected the emoji design for 'U+1F52B' to be 'water pistol.'
However, the Unicode Consortium's decision is merely to set 'U+1F52B' as 'water gun,' and the platform will decide how the water gun emoji will be specifically designed. On July 18, 2024, X engineer kache announced at X that 'when viewing X in a web browser, the gun emoji will revert to the M1911 design.'

In addition, Twitter launched the open source emoji project 'Twemoji' in 2014, and adopted this Twemoji to display emojis.
