Intel finally admits that its own designs are causing problems with its 13th and 14th generation CPUs

Regarding the reports of 'game crashes' and 'software not working properly' from users of Intel's 13th and 14th generation Core processors, Intel has issued a statement stating that 'the cause was its own microcode.' Intel plans to release a patch to fix the issue in August 2024.

Problems with 13th and 14th generation processors have been reported since early 2024, and in April 2024, Intel prepared a report stating that ' the cause of the problem is the overclocking settings of the motherboard .' However, even after that, reports continued to come in, such as 'not only games but also compression/decompression benchmarks and memory tests do not work properly,' and 'problems also occur on game servers, which have fundamentally different power settings than desktop PCs,' and it was pointed out that the motherboard may not be the cause.

Meanwhile, on July 22, 2024, an Intel employee posted the results of an investigation on the official forum, stating that 'After analyzing 13th and 14th generation processors that were returned due to defects, we found that an increase in operating voltage was causing instability in some 13th and 14th generation processors for desktop PCs.' According to the post, the increase in operating voltage was caused by a microcode algorithm, which sent an incorrect voltage request to the processor. In other words, the malfunction of the 13th and 14th generation processors was caused by Intel's microcode .

The post also states that 'Intel is providing a microcode patch to address the root cause of the high voltage issue,' and that 'a fix patch will be available in mid-August after full validation to address the issue.'

Users have also reported similar issues with 13th and 14th generation processors for laptops. However, Intel has stated that the cause of the issues on mobile devices is different from that on desktop PCs, and did not mention laptop processors in this statement.
